board url: www.ana.boards.netUsing any browser, when we go to post and as writers, paste long works from MS Word into the post box, it doesn't paragraph them out as written. What I mean is, say in word, where there would be double space between paragraphs as I write it, it would be spiffy if it came out that same way for others to read. Instead, it comes out like no spaces between paragraphs. It's not all one run-on paragraph, but there's no room to delineate who's speaking etc as it is when written. No, using PRE doesn't fix it at all. We could do it as an attachment, but then individuals have to open it, and it makes ongoing commentary/correction rather impossible. Suggestions?

Greetings,
Copy-and-paste, especially from word, is always a really tricky matter from a programmer's point of view. With a quick Google search, I was unable to find a quick solution, but you could always try saving a copy of the word document as a plain text (.txt) file, opening that in another application (such as notepad on windows or textedit on mac), and then copying that. And for future use, the latter two programs may be a better choice for content you plan to copy over to the forum.

Thank you.
I was looking for a simple solution, lol, not more work!
After reading your advice I tested whether I could save it as plain text in word and guess what it can - and it's even kind enough to let you preview the effect, which guess what, looked just like how it spits it out onto our forum with no breaks. There is an option box to check "insert line breaks" and it does - seemingly with random glee instead of accuracy.

I'm sorry I don't have a simpler solution, but as I said, it's a tricky situation Any luck trying an alternate text editor?

Well while I'm on here trying to help someone else out I noticed this post.
Try something called Notepad++ (just Google it). It's free and MAN: it's powerful (and NO: it's not my software i.e. I just happened to find it while "battling" to edit some HTML code.
Regards,
Dale.

Well thanks for the assistance I guess but it shouldn't be that myself or any of my co-writers have to go to such lengths just to post our craft.
If we have to do that, hell, what's the difference if we just spend a few minutes manually making the breaks in the post? Effort is effort, right?
This is something that Proboards should investigate and fix if possible.
I'm not going to tell people they have to download another word processing/text program just to make it work more easily. Luckily for us, this is just a temporary "beta" board and one on which to chit chat about ideas and such. When we move to having a website, we'll be sure to find out if the word paste feature works before we start up a board for writers and web page guests.
Thanks again.

Just a note, this will be "fixed" in the future. In the future, text that you copy in from an outside text editor will be automatically converted to plaintext. All complex formatting will be stripped. This will solve your issue.

Just to add to the above, you can paste into the BBCode editor on the posting page and this should take care of the issue you experience today. You can even modify your profile to make the BBCode mode the default editor if you paste in content regularly

The simplest and quickest way to deal with this problem is to double space your paragraphs in your Word document.....It doesn't look so nice in word but believe me it saves a lot of time having to create all those spaces between paragraphs in your proboards post box. You can always go back to your word document and close the spaces up to one space again........just takes seconds. I have been doing a lot of writing and got very frustrated so I did a google search one day......and this information about double spacing fell nicely into my lap. It truly works, I promise you...

Re my above post......I am sorry, didn't realise this was a beta board...... But the solution I have explained works just fine in the version prior t0 v5.....I use it all the time......so it should surely work here as well? Margaret

Still having this issue
Double, triple, quadrupletrillion spacing what I've written in Word as suggested prior to pasting on the board. It does nothing.
I tried pasting into BBcode tab, but that did nothing either so I'm not sure exactly how the previous suggestion works. Can someone explain how I do it in BBcode tab other than duh, just select that tab and past in my writing?
Downloaded Notepad ++ and I have no idea how to do anything in that to effect the paragraph separations I'm wanting.

Margaret Margaret - I've double, triple, quadruple spaced in Word prior to pasting, and it does nothing. Well, it does, I guess, here and there it seemed to have effect, but I still had to go back in and space it out. If you can give me a sort of template to set up in a blank word doc prior to writing, I will give that a try.

Let me clarify.
If I paste it into BBcode tab and it "strips all formatting" --- then I still have to go through and paragraph it out.
In a pasting of almost 5,000 words, you can imagine that's something I'd rather avoid.
What I'm trying to accomplish is formatted-formatted.
