Return user data from id list function - for plugins

Feature Request:

a plugin-usable version of the AJAX call to get the micro-profiles that are returned on a search request or clicking the "members liked" link.  It would take in a separated list of user ids, and return object data that can be used in scripts.  I would think a throttle would need to be placed on it, such as no more then 25 at a time, and no more then once every 30 seconds or something to prevent flooding.

I know this has the potential for abuse, so Im crossing my fingers there is a way to monitor a plugin attempting to skirt the restrictions.
