Forum URL: http://.proboards.com
Ok i have been told that using www. for a proboards forum is wrong for some reason, but i dont understand why. Reason i dont understand why is because the person didnt actually say anything, other than 'its somethign to do with forums with ad free'.. And that doesnt help me really.. So, why is it wrong to use www. for a proboards forum? Ive been using www. for a few weeks now :-\

ProBoards boards do not use www. though. http:// is what they all start with in the URL. The reason www. works now is because so many people think every URL starts with www. so it was enstated to work Kapt~`'-

When signing up for ad-free, if you have www. in your URL, it'll cause an error.

just to add if I may : if you are member here at support or any other proboard for that matter don't use www on your profile page if you are going to list your board as your Web Site URL, always use http:// ..www won't work as a link in your mini profile.

It got me there, but I wasn't logged in. My suggestion after reading this is do it how it was meant to be http:// not www.

Technicly putting www. is wrong www. is in essence a subdomain, which just became the default subdomain for a regular domain. Your forum account is a subdomain (eg support is a subdomain of proboards.com) by putting www.support.proboards.com you are actully saying goto the subdomain www which is a subdomain of support subdomain, which is a subdomain of proboards.com Until v4 the system would just reject www. at the start of the URL, it was only added because of the ammount of people who seemed to think it should be there, and therefore didnt get to their forums There are still some places, such as ad free validiation, or infact many of the server side things (Which obviously only affect me) which still dont like the www. Best practise, dont use it
