Forum URL: ontfish.proboards89.comSome of our members are reporting they cannot log in since we moved from server 39 to 89 the other day. Most troubles were fixed by having them use the 'forgot my password' link. However some troubles still exist. The most common problem is a 'Invalid username/password combination' error even after teh lost password link used. I've manually reset a few of the passwords and they get the same error. Some cannot log in yet the site shows them as logged in..so the cookie is okay. This error does not occur if they use a different comp or browser and only exist on PC's using Internet Explorer and/or Norton firewall. So far I have had the members do the following.. Add new server to allowed sites in Norton Clear cookies Clear cache USe 'forgot my password' link Reset URL in bookmarks. Try to convince them (again) that IE is a POS and to use Firefox or Opera. Any other ideas?

clear cache, as in tempary internet files.
as you said it doent have this problem if it is on another computer, therfore the problem must be on the computer.
Try getting the users to log in to your forum using a different local account (so mabye their bro's account or dad's account on the computer) and see if they can get in with that.

There isnt actully any physical reason for this to happen, the data was merly duplicated on the other server, all usernames, passwords, settings etc are still exactly the same as they were before.
From expereince, the problems is users forgetting their passwords, but that it had never mattered previously, because they always had "remeber my password" enabled
My guess would be at some point the users allowed cookies to be set from the old domain, or that the "remember this password" was enabled before installing norton
The solution would be to disable norton to allow the cookie to be set, or add the new domain to the allow list
These bits of software think they are aiding you, but a lot of the time give a little too much protection for normal operation
That, because it was specific to the old address, would need to be reenabled, meaning a password needing to be retyped. As users had forgotten passwords, they then needed to rereqest them.
Users saying they knew their password, but that it didnt work until they requested doesnt make sense, as requesting a password doesnt actully change any data, it merly reads out the password to email to the users
As for the point saying users cant login but the site shows them as logged in (in the users online i presume) this is actully a cookie problem. Logged in status for that list is kept server side, and individual users status cookie side
