hi, is possible to embed pdf or word docs in posts? I read that in 2011 it was not possible but do not known if was a technology limitation or a company policy and do not know current state in v5. In other words, is expected this feature available in future if not available now.
on the other hand, where can find a list of BBcodes supported by proboards?
Thanks

Hi ponzinomics, You can attach the documents, but it's not currently possible to physically embed them into a post. There also isn't a full list of BBCodes available currently, but if you're on the posting page and switch to BBCode mode, clicking on each of the individual buttons above the message area will present you with the BBCode used for each element. I like the idea of having a ready list available though, so I'll make a note to create one either for the help guide or the FAQ

Hi, ponzinomics. To add on to the above post: Apart from the buttons you can find on the posting page you can use pretty much any HTML tag in a post (substituting its < and > symbols for corresponding brackets) so long as it doesn't involve embedding a file or changing the overall styles of the page. For example, you can add a <div> element to a post and style it using inline styles via adding the style attribute to it, but you can't make CSS declarations with style tags, embed a Javascript file, nor embed an object within a post.

Thanks for your responses. Well, the idea is embedded as this. So I understand that it is just a temporary limitation, even if it delays.... But is supposed to be somewhere in the schedule? HTML Code is not really complicated to support so it looks an intended limitation.<object data="/pdf/sample.pdf#toolbar=1&navpanes=0&scrollbar=1&page=1&view=FitH" type="application/pdf" width="100%" height="100%"> ... </object> I suppose neither iframe nor object are between the supported BBCode...

It is an intended limitation, and i can't see it changing in the foreseeable future. Being able to use HTML in posts opens the forum up to potential issues from what is posted.

i understand, you are referring to unwanted or compromising opinions i suppose... I mean, this is supposed to be relied on the moderation is not it? Out of curiosity, what would be considered a comment to be avoided: rude words (of course), insulting others, but expressing your opinion correctly even if this opinion is ""out of place" or uncommon, should be something to avoid? Can you please elaborate?
Does the same applies to Forums.net? I read that policies are more relaxed on Forums.net...
(I am not based in the US and do not know the legislation over there so I am curious)

It's more for forum security purposes. Allowing iframes in posts could allow someone to embed a malicious web page that could cause harm to other's computers. I'm afraid this isn't possible on Forums.net as well.

oh, I see. Well, I understand the problem and, whereas I do not have a proper technical opinion on the security issue. I think is really a big loss, specially for embedding documents on conversations. For example a pdf can contains charts or tables that require hard work to recreate with HTML. My +1 for an re-assessment on this for Forums.net, maybe for narrowed specific cases, e.g. a plugin that only allows to show a pdf or a word doc, rather than fully allowing <object>, <embed> or <iframe>, i.e. very specific cases, or maybe only authorized for admin (actually, admin can create iframes in any other part of the templates at will). Well, my +1 for one more thought on this. Regards.
