Forum URL: walkingdeadnewera.forums.net/Hi, I am planning on exporting a backup of the forum, but being a nervous user I just wanted an explanation as to what happens. Mainly will it just be a backup and the data will still be on the forum safe and sound. I'm just afraid if I click it, everything will be wiped out. Also, how long does it take?

GingerIKitsune You can't make a backup of the forum. You can make a backup of your posts & PMs - which exports a copy and leaves the posts/PMs intact on your forum.

That's what I meant, I was going to click export to collate all the posts and PMs onto my computer as a backup. I just wanted to make sure that it wouldn't delete everything off the board.
Is the downtime dependant on the amount of posts?

On the export button on my dashboard it states the following:
Important: During the backup process, your forum will be temporarily unavailable.

GingerIKitsune, Sorry I missed that you were a Forums.net customer. In this case you are making a backup of your forum and the length of downtime depends on the size of the forum. In the future please create a ticket in Forums.net for support. Creating a ticket there gives you priority support and help specifically geared towards a Forums.net forum. Not all things work the same here on the ProBoards free forums as they do for the Forums.net paid forums, and the support you could receive here may not always be accurate. Thank you.

My experience is that it takes about 5 minutes or so for my forum. That's with about twice the posts that you have.

Generally it takes only a few minutes, but if you have hundreds of thousands of posts it could take an hour or more. Again it really just depends on the size of your forum and how much data there is!
