Not sure if this has been asked before, so I'll post it here as I'm curious.
When you go to your profile, if you and another person are following each other, they're considered friends. When they are online, they show up on the Friends tab of your profile as online.
Is there a way to say add a custom link, say in a sidebar, that says "Friends" and it will link to the friends tab of the profile (i know how to do this), but it will also pull a number to show you if any of your friends are online.
So for example:
Friends (2)
^^ That would indicate that two of my friends were online.

Hi, Teg. The online friend count is produced by a variable that's exclusive to the Friends page of the user profile template, so it unfortunately cannot be used anywhere else. Sorry.

Could we maybe feature request the option to be able to reproduce a numerical value for navigation? It would be private to the users and only show up for them.

Labeled as a feature request.
