I completely understand where you're coming from but you also have to consider our perspective: We're simply not going to contact every one of our customers who pay for our software every time we want to make a change to it. Sometimes we need to make a decision about what is best for the direction of our software and sometimes that means removing features that are redundant, pointless, outdated, unused, or that we feel simply didn't live up to our standards. We need to learn to be okay with the fact that some people are going to hate that decision and maybe that means that they won't use our product anymore. We have to learn to be okay with that. Now ideally the changes we make will improve the overall experience and we'll see an explosion of new users and growth. We always want to be making ProBoards and Forums.net the best software that it can be with a clear goal of what it should be helping our users achieve. We can't be shackled to maintaining a huge feature set just because there's a small percentage of our user base that would be upset because we remove a minor feature that receives less than 0.00000000001% of our daily traffic. Big and wonderful changes are coming to ProBoards and Forums.net in the coming months and I think you'll all be extremely pleased with what we have to show you. Hold tight with us and I think we'll blow you away. Ninja Edit: I can also mention that we've talked about FDN customers getting "early access" to upcoming changes and making "Official" plugins not count towards your plugin total. Both of these would also help address concerns raised in this thread! I can't wait to see what the new features are Michael I just have one questions, even if the FDN customers get it early will we all get the new features eventually? Everyone should be getting new features at the same time. We'll of course be providing a lot more info on this soon™!

Can something be done for mobile users? I have received a lot of complaints from our mobile forum users today. This was a feature that apparently really helped our mobile users. I'm afraid this wouldn't be possible at this time. Sorry. When the new mobile version of the forum is released this will be possible, but even if the plugin were to run on the existing version of the mobile view there would be no reply counts for it to reference so it wouldn't be able to do its thing. Okay, I will let our users know that the feature may be back when the new mobile version of the forums is released. Unfortunately, with the volume of posts on our forums this was actually a function that helped our members a lot. People do not really bump old threads on our boards so the hot topics function worked exactly as it was meant to for us and so far it seems like many are unhappy to see it gone. The plugin appeased our desktop users, but not our mobile users which includes thousands of users. It really seems like something was "fixed" that was not broken. Hopefully the complaints will end though once I let them know that they will have access to this function again in the hopefully near future.

I'm in agreement, @theophaniatcf. It was very useful on our forum.
Brian, just to claify, header/footer codes don't work in mobile?

Brian , just to claify, header/footer codes don't work in mobile? The only customization you can make to the mobile version of the forum is changing its colors. Beyond that it does not adopt any of your other visual customizations.

I guess I will chime in here with an opposing view. I noticed fairly quickly that the hot topics folder once it became hot never cooled down. So a thread that was hot for a few days and then was resolved just kept staying hot. That, to me, wasn't useful. I frankly didn't even miss the hot topic being gone until I saw these posts. To me, it would only be useful if it had some sort of time restriction so that it would only light up when it was currently active.

The way it was before, though, you had to set the amount of posts in the Forum Settings. ( Admin > Settings > Forum Settings). If my memory serves, the setting for hot threads was in the Boards & Threads area of the Forum tab. That box is what dictated when a thread became "hot" and after it reached that amount of replies, it would remain hot for the duration of the time that the thread was on the forum, not becoming "un-hot". Does that make sense?

Does that make sense? yes, I understood that. I am having a hard time explaining what I mean. Let's say 4 months ago a topic became hot. Regardless of how many posts it took to get there. Then the thread became dormant for months. Then someone digs that up from page 2 of the thread list, and adds one more comment and it bumps up to the top of the thread list. Looking like a hot topic when really it had gone cold months ago. I would find that feature more useful if I could tell it that it has to have say 10 posts in the space of two days before I consider it hot. And if it has gone say two weeks with no posts, it cools down.

Maybe that could be a suggestion to the devs if this ever comes back (even though I doubt it will site-wide)?

I never really understood the meaning for having the "hot topic" folder there when I thought we simply could just look at the post count. It's like marking it twice. A little redundant. To me, I thought they both gave the same information. So, I'm fine with this update. (Honestly, since I'm a bit late to this conversation, it shows not only me, but all of my members, never noticed they were removed in the first place.)
However, I do like the suggestion that it is labled as hot for a temporary amount of time. But as the thread sits a while without many posts being added, it should be deemed no longer hot. Post count should show that it once was.
So, this is cool news.
ps.. plus now knowing that v6 is coming we know other things mentioned here about plugins being viewable on mobile devices has been taken care of. Cool!
