Why are there more adverts now than in V4. I can understand the top and bottom banners. But the video adverts (which I have reported some in the past for autoplaying and nothing was done) on every thread page seems a bit over the top.
I'm also sure there use to be text links opposite the video ads too.

Hi,
Where are these ads displaying? Aside from the ads on the captcha, i don't think there are any more or less ads than v4, and whilst video/animated ads may be permitted, ads with automatic sound are not. I am not sure what you have reported in the past, so can not comment on why you perceive nothing was done.

I'm not seeing extra ads on the ProBoards sites I visit. There are, sometimes, video ads but not with sound. If I do see one with sound, I report it. If you're seeing extra ads, you may have malware on your computer. Try scanning with MalwareBytes to see if you can find and eliminate the culprit.

If you're reporting an advertisement (via Ctrl+Alt+R) be absolutely sure to specify a report reason along with your screenshot, and make sure you're submitting the report in the box that came up over the offending ad.
Otherwise the report will likely be discarded.

blitzenThere have not always been video ads in that spot, that's just been a recent development, generally it's the usual non-video ad. I wasn't here for v4, so for me they've always have been there.

Well, with v4, they only had the bottom and top ads. I wish it was like that and you could get rid of the "Related Topics and Stories" bit too. I'm pretty sure there also used to be text links in that box at some time or another.
If Proboards got by fine with only 2 before, why not now? 3/4 adverts is OTT. Especially ones that can take up data from someone's mobile data if they view desktop mode (or when v6 comes along).

Especially ones that can take up data from someone's mobile data if they view desktop mode (or when v6 comes along). Ad-block. If you don't like seeing that third ad, then talk to your users about not using ad-block. We don't use intrusive or invasive ads, popups, or interstitial ads. When ad-block became more prevalent we saw income from forums drop, in order to keep free forums free we have to be able to break even hosting that content. The compromise instead of making the adverts larger, or adding more of them we'd insert a new one but only inside of threads. I feel like this is an extremely reasonable compromise on our part especially when more and more sites nowadays won't even let you in (forbes comes to mind) if you have ad-block enabled and are splashed with enough adverts its difficult to tell where the content starts and the ad begins. If you have a suggestion as to how we could make this better for users we're always open to it, but just saying "I want less ads" isn't something we're able to do unless we remove the option of forums being free which is something we never want to do. Ad-free is always available to those who don't want advertisements on their forums! Edit: It's also worth mentioning that v6 will detect what sort of device you're on and pick appropriately sized ads to fit your screen size. If you're viewing on desktop mode now then I suggest you switch back to mobile if data limitations are on your mind!

Atm, you have to view desktop mode in order to moderate as the moderation functions on mobile view are very limited, so it's not so simple as telling a person to go on mobile view only. Likewise for members, you can't do bold or any of that stuff so easily on mobile view unless you're willing to figure out where all the symbols are in your keyboard (be it touch or physical on a mobile).
I'm well aware of what other sites do, but you're not them.
Some of the ads are intrusive, especially flashing ones and auto-play ones. I saw another auto play one today but when I checked back after finding out what the buttons I had to press was it had stopped so I didn't get a chance to report it. You have income from various sources, not just adverts, and seem to be able to pay full time staff so I don't think your earnings are low, especially when you're charging 50 bucks to set up someones forum if they so choose it (even though all the information on how to do so is free on here).
And I only have 7 members on my board. It's hardly going to break your bank is it if some of them use ad block? Plus you have millions of dead forums showing ad impressions to guests, then there's the millions of forums that are very active that will be getting lots of ad impressions. There's a reason people use it and unfortunately you can't force someone not to use it. Complain to the ad-block creators if it's that much of a problem. You should just go back to the 2 ads and charge more for advertising impressions. Hell, you could get loads of impressions just by having ads shown on this forum; the user base on this board is huge.
Even if you don't remove that third ad, the least you can do is just change it to a standard square one. By allowing video based and animated ones you'll be making more work load for yourself via the reports. Seems a waste of time to allow those ads through.
Lastly, ad-free is only available to those who can a) afford it and b) want to have money wasted when the month ends but the impressions haven't.

I think the ad-free program is a good one, but I do have a suggestion that may improve it
I think you should be allowed to purchase pageviews in bulk and have them Not end at the end of the month, just pageviews that can be used whenever. Personally it makes no sense to me that the ad-free ends at the end of the month even if you haven't used the pageviews

If you're paying for a set number of page views you should get that set number. Otherwise it can be considered false advertising/misleading if it stops your ad-free before your page views run out.

I would even consider paying a little more for ad-free if purchased pageviews rolled over until used.

Totally agree with you, my forum doesn't quite reach the 50,000 pageview mark so it would be definitely more worth it to buy ad-free if the pageviews rolled over, I see no reason why they cannot roll over to the next month.

I've got a 50,000 pageview purchased for one of my forums, but it hasn't been activated yet as we don't get anywhere near 50,000 pageviews in a month's time - so it just sits there until we get close enough to actually have it worth using. I think I bought it back in December.

I think I would feel more inclined to purchase ad-free if the pageviews rolled over, I just checked our analytics and we've had 40,000 pageviews in the last month, This is the highest it's ever been I think, our forum is small but active still, I would be interested in ad-free but I don't want wasted pageviews.
