Aye, we might as well just keep this thread if everyone's in agreement - can't think of a compelling reason to bother with a new one. Besides we've already been through the " people think it's hilarious to pretend they thought this was an American football thread" phase with this one and I don't want the second-hand embarassment of going through it again. I was actually thinking we could just call it the football thread? Let me know what yous all think. to avoid the problem call the thread european soccer thread well or european football thread or simply....football as in soccer thread

From what I heard D from a guy that he went for the interview and was told there would be no new transfer funds and he would have had to take a cut in his payment offer if he did take the job on so he smiled and said "No thanks" and left, if that is true or not I don't know but it would not surprise me either. It made me wonder why Moyes did not just stay on and try and get them back up to the EPL like Rafa did with Newcastle, maybe they said to Moyes the same thing and that's why he left, Moyes is not everybody's cup of tea anyway, getting sacked by United and Real Sociedad and could not keep Sunderland up like Big Sam did and they were relegated and I can't see any Championship club let alone clubs in the EPL taking him on, his CCV's are zero managing clubs after leaving Everton.

Probably because Moyes knew he wasn't up to the job to be honest. I think he wanted to save himself the future failure of not only being the manager who finally went down with them but also being the one to keep them there. Hard to see him getting any decent job in English football now. Should be interesting to see who Sunderland can attract with the imminent takeover and so much structural change behind the scenes. I doubt it's going to be the kind of manager who fills the fans full of confidence about coming back up. Could be a very uneasy few years for Sunderland. edit: Have updated thread title and OP as per our discussion earlier!

It would be hard to believe. They get a massive parachute payment, they have 30m from pickford transfer. To have no transfer funds available would point to some massive mismanagement over the past couple of years, and i don't mean from Moyes, but higher up.

Also have to weigh up moving to a different country. Agree with krasnodor... money has dries ip in russian football, hasn't it? not really but i could imagine he rather moves to the premier league than to dusseldorf or hoffenheim because they pay more and its more appealing than playing in the second german division for dusseldorf or in the bundesliga for hoffenheim...as for russian football, not sure about the money situation but he wont go there because many black players suffer racism in russian football and there arent many playing there.besides to be fair, who wants to go to russia? i wouldnt

The days of Anzhi Makhachkala potentially doing a Man City seem long gone.

Very interesting, especially these two. I know in Australian Rules Football they have a stadium clock and have 2 timekeepers in the stand's watching and timing the games and at full time they will sound a hooter when the match has finished, this takes the onus off the referee/umpire in adding time on, I think they do this across here in the UK with Rugby League matches?

Yeah, they do it in rugby. It would be a major change for football though. 45 minutes is almost synonymous with football. Not sure i agree with the penalty one. Once the ball is kicked, it ia in play, and so game should continue if it is saved, but not put out of play. I like the one about the handling of the ball to stop a certain goal. Been saying for ages that a goal should be awarded in those circumstances.
