cant see it....dusseldorf is in the second bundesliga division...hoffenheim is crap and as for krasnodar? unlikely lol We (Brighton) have recently signed Gross from FC Ingolstadt 04, any opinions on how he will do in the PL for us? hmm doesnt tell me much, yes i remember he is a midfielder but nothing special and i dont re-call him being any decent in ingolstadt.in fact they got relegated and if he was any good bayern munich or another bundesliga team would have snapped him up (surely) but anyway, good luck for next season, you gonna need it

Defoe on his way (back) to Bournemouth, seems like good business for them. Meanwhile Sunderland look to be chasing Simon Grayson as their Moyes replacement. Thoughts on him?

A sound lower league manager - I can't see him as the person that can give them an immediate bounce back into the PL though - but with the squad they have, if he can bring in a couple of battlers and bring the team together, he could get them promoted again. If i was a Sunderland fan, i'd be disappointed.

I'd be quite worried if I was a Sunderland fan now that the club management seem quite happy to tread water rather than try and get straight back up.

To be honest, i don't know much about him, but i believe he has done well at each club he has been at. Got Blackpool promoted, then leeds, huddersfield and preston, and last season got preston comfortably into mid table. So i'd suggest it was a good relatively cheap option for sunderland. He has got every team he has managed promoted, so it's worth a punt to see if he can do the same with sunderland. There will be 10-12 teams going in to the season with a realistic expectation of challenging, so it won't be easy, but i'd suggest that he has the history of success, and knowledge if the league to give it a good go. We all know the championship is a tough league to get out of - and he will essentially have to build a whole new team, so hopefully expectations aren't unrealistic and he is given time to build that team.

His pedigree is a lot better than I thought, but I still reckon Sunderland fans are going to be underwhelmed with the appointment. Coupled with the fact that the takeover seems to be off and that they're going to have to rebuild their squad with what seems like limited funds, I'd be very, very surprised to see Sunderland even in the play-off positions next season.

I don't think we honestly ever had a real chance, what with his connection to Huddersfield (who it's just been confirm he's joined permanently). I think our priorities are elsewhere as well - we need 1, ideally 2 strikers to complement what we have as well as in dire need of a Left Back - we've been linked with Joe Gomez from Liverpool, which will be a good move if we can get him.

Looks like Murphy is heading to Forest Craig ( source). Shame he's not heading back to yous. He was class last season when he got a game and it was probably the first time in ages that we had a reliable backup striker. Three year deal at his age isn't too bad either.

He was class last season when he got a game and it was probably the first time in ages that we had a reliable backup striker. Three year deal at his age isn't too bad either. He's a solid performer. Would point to him as the guy that took you over the line last season. We simply can't afford him. Assume that Forest are using a bit of the £12m they got for Assombalonga (sp?) to get him. I may be wrong, but i can't recall him having any injury problems of note, so 3 years is a good deal for both parties i think. Will take him to 36, and Forest should get 3 good years out of him. We are being linked to a number of strikers from the championship, and lower down, and assume we are bidding around a million, but they are going for £3m or so. Out of our price range...

No complaints here. Good, albeit maybe fortuitous start to the season. Apparently we have the worst defence [ conceded most chances ], and worst attack [ produced the fewest chances ], but there we are, top of the league.
Waghorn and Garner, who apparently cost considerably less than a million - combined - have been putting the chances away, and we have some youngsters playing, mainly due to injuries, but they have stepped up to the plate. We have like half of our team out injured or sick at the moment, and we have no recognised first team central defender, so our last league game we started with 4 full backs in defence... and kept a clean sheet!
Obviously don't think we will be up there come the end of the year, but the good start has at least - hopefully - mean that we won't be fighting relegation at the end of the season. We were 3rd favourites to go down with most bookmakers, but hopefully we can beat those odds and finish mid-table... developing the young players along the season, and hopefully be in a position next season to push for a play-off place.
The best thing is though, that there seems to be a feel good factor back at the club.

^^ I was surprised to see Ipswich doing so well so far - always liked them and hoped they'd do well and get out of the league (not out the trap-door though...). Hopefully you can be there or thereabouts if you can get players fit and new additions. Any new players coming in, esp in defence?
We haven't started all that great - 2 defeats, 0 goals. Not totally surprising considering we have played the favourites for the title and the champions 2 years ago - but we've not been outplayed in either game, just we are more concerned about not conceding then not scoring. We've integrated a few new players; Mat Ryan in goal has had flashes of brilliance and then some terrible goalkeeping in each of the three matches he's appeared in (im counting our friendly v Athetico Madrid as well). Davy Propper, a Dutch international has been fairly anonymous so far but there's some promise.
The main issue is we only have two fit strikers (Murray & Hemed) and both are slow and target men - no players to play off them and we appear to play 1 up front now, when playing 4-4-2 worked for us in the Championship. We've recently signed José Izquierdo for a club record fee, so hopefully he brings some width and attacking pace; Knockaert has been injured and is prone to spending time on the floor so that leaves us with Solly March, who is superb to watch but still raw.
We need probably 1-2 strikers, poss a new Right Back (I love Bruno, but he's 37 now) and perhaps another centre-midfielder if Kayal is out for a long time and Propper turns out to be crap.
We won't pull up any trees this season. 17th is the target for me.
