postimg.org - Broken Images Issue

Postimages.org is experiencing some issues. On postimages.org home page is this message:




For images on your forum that are affected by this, here is a simple workaround that will fix those broken images:

Go to Admin > Security > Censored Words, and add a new entry:

Please note that there is a  leading 'period' for each entry.  This is so the censored fix only affects URLs (image links) and not any normal discussion of postimg.org on the forum.

This workaround will only fix images in posts. Postimage.org links used in themes, plugins, and layout templates will need to be manually updated.

Is there a simple way to check to see if any themes or plugins are using that?

Or will just making that change in Admin work regardless?

Themes and plugins will not be affected by this fix. As Scott said,

You can use this script to change any images used in your theme (though note that this is not a permanent find and replace and will revert back to the bad URL if removed). Personally, while I can understand having to do this for image-heavy themes / multiple themes is daunting, I find reliance on using scripts to override content that is easily editable (albeit time consuming) is poor practice.

There is no easy way for plugins, however.

Yeap,so thanks for the idea Scott, it's not perfect but it still is very functional. Images are such a double edged sword they can really help and visually enhance a forum but they can also add massive amount of ugliness when all the links are broken.

While I would have initially posted the same suggestion, you should offer thanks to stevecureboi as he did post this work around for members hours earlier while I was asleep (link).  I just posted the sticky so this solution would be more available to the masses.

I only wished I had visited the support forum a few weeks ago. I have around 16000 images on my forum and spent over three months repairing it last year when Photobucket got up to their tricks. Over  the last two weeks I have managed to restore about 2000 images by re hosting them again on Post image. Came on here this even as I got an angry bear, saw this post and carried out the instructions. Thank you ever so much as this fix has saved me months of work. Its why Proboards is the very best with the very best support.

Scott, may I ask who originally founded proboards? Did they sell out to the highest bidder?

ProBoards was founded and is owned by Patrick Clinger. Nobody sold anything to anyone, and FYI please follow the rules of this board (i.e. no hijacking of another's thread). Thank you.
