I have had a couple of members that have been trying to register but the security boxes put them off. They say you have to tick the boxes with traffic lights or vehicles and hills. Is there any way that we can change that option. I think it puts members off joining mentalhealthissues.boards.net/

Those are CAPTCHA tests. They make sure the user is a person and not a bot submitting the form. It cannot be disabled.
The third-party service that provides the test dictates the nature of the test for each user. You have no say in how they administer tests, I’m afraid. The image matching only comes up if the service provider (reCAPTCHA) is having a hard time determining the validity of a user. If everything goes according to plan, a user should only have to click the “I’m not a robot” box once and be instantly verified.
