Forum URL: music-and-perception.boards.netHi
I am in a bit of a pickle with user and display names.
I setup my forum and can't remember the exact steps but ended up with username "admin". I used "music neuro" as display name which seems to have carried over here on the support forum.
I just changed my display name to Audiophile Neuroscience from within my forum profile and at my proboards account I changed admin to Audiophile Neuroscience.
My forum shows me as Audiophile Neuroscience but that name nor my prior display name (music neuro) cannot be used for tagging ! Only "admin".
This is counter intuitive for members.
I know only user names can be used for tagging. I thought if I changed my proboards username from the default admin that would do the trick?
Thanks

Hi musicneuro - Display names can be changed at any time but usernames are created at the time of account creation and can never be changed.
- The user/1 account (forum owner) is assigned the username: admin as part of the forum creation process. There is no option for using a different username for the user/1 account.

Do you know of a plugin that enables auto completion/searching of display name (ultimately referencing user name) that when a member start typing @displayname-whatever it searches the database in a similar manner that "user link" does?

Hey musicneuro the good news is you won't need a plugin for your members to get your username in a tag. When they use this button in the editor: they can just start typing your Display Name. A list will appear and the closer they get completing to your Display Name, the shorter the list will be. They can click on your entry in the list as soon as it appears. The example shown below is for Patrick Clinger, user/1 (admin) on the Support Forum.

Hi yes exactly like the "user link" button in the editor but which activates when typing within the message itself simply by typing the "@" symbol (and then commencing the display name. Other forum software has this feature. The member does not have to know about the editor button Cheers David

You can also use your censored words to have "@admin" replace whatever you want. So you could do:
@bob ==replace with==> @admin
So your members can tag you as bob, but the software changes it to admin and appropriately tags your account. I would not use spaces in the @ tag you decide to use, to make sure that the censor works properly.

Also, while looking at posts in a thread, if a person's mini profile is on that page, you can use ALT+Click to insert that member's username at the cursor location (when posting in Reply or Quick Reply).

The member does not have to know about the editor button Cheers David I don't know enough about plugins to know if such a thing is possible, but it seems like it might be too resource-intensive. The system software would need to continue to look at whats being typed in the text area and trigger an event when the @ , followed by any character, is typed then invoke the member search. One of the ProBoards Admins or coders might be able to advise whether that would be feasible. If you're dead-set on a plugin, this one might fill your needs: Simple Tagging v1.0.6 Please note, plugins don't work on the mobile version of the forums.
