HoudiniDerek , I really can't say I would bet one way or the other on either of the NLDS matchups. I think the Nats could survive. Since both games tomorrow will be a fifth and final game, all four teams will be pulling out all the stops. Of the four possible celebrations yesterday, only one occurred. The Yankees swept the Twins in the minimum three games. The Twins never seemed like they were in it at all. Charlie Morton was amazing in Game 3 against the Astros (and Greinke was pretty awful) but I think Houston will be celebrating tonight. Verlander insisted on starting today's game even though he'll be on short rest. Hinch has given him the nod to do so. www.si.com/mlb/2019/10/08/verlander-insists-starting-game-4-astros-rays I love that it's a do or die for each team in the NLDS. I am just not confident in the Cardinals. I should be, based on past postseason performances, but I'm still a little uncertain this year. I'm more confident in the Dodgers, but the Nationals starting pitching could easily decide it. Kudos to the Yankees. I'm not really surprised. Although I think I will be stunned if the Astros pooch it.

Well now it's do or die for the Astros and Rays, too. But we won't see that showdown until tomorrow. Stunned is an appropriate word. The Astros looked like the best team in baseball coming out of Spring Training and their deadline deals made them seem invincible. But what appeared to be a fait accompli is now in question. In spite of Verlander's willingness to step up, he was totally off his game yesterday.
On the NL side, I do like the Braves. I think the tomahawk chop thing is juvenile and it puts me off but mostly I do like the team. Ronald Acuna Jr is another story. Walking casually down the first base line to admire what he thought was a home run but turned into a single (should have been at least a double if he ran) isn't baseball. That's just styling. He got benched for the same thing in August. You'd think he would have learned something from that but apparently not.

Jack Flaherty is starting today, odds are if the offense can muster two runs, IMO we have a great chance! "Before or during Jack Flaherty’s start today, viewers are likely to hear about his 0.91 second half ERA. It is the third-lowest second-half ERA since 1920." link

Welp, the Dodgers did about as well as expected, so now I need to figure out who I'm going to get behind. The Yankees, probably...? They're doing pretty well even though it seems like their entire team was on the DL for half the season.

It was great to take the division series, now to see the Nats. "Cardinals Tie MLB Playoff Record with 10 Runs Scored in 1st Inning vs. Braves. The St. Louis Cardinals set a record for the most runs in one Divisional Series inning and tied the mark for most runs in any MLB playoff inning with a 10-spot in the top of the first against the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday." link

It was a great game! I knew the Cardinals had it in them, so I'm glad it showed up. I hope they keep the hammer down as they face the Nationals. Traditionally, they are good against them, but the Nationals starting pitching is a huge concern, especially with Flaherty pitching 100+ pitches yesterday for no reason.

It was only a great game for the Cardinals fans. For anyone else watching, the top of the first was impressive but after that, it was pretty boring.
Fun Fact: All three celebrations so far, were on the road. (Not such a fun fact if you're an Astros fan.)

I am guessing the Astros don't. If they lose, it will be a surprise to everyone in my mind.

I was not surprised by the ALCS. The Astros just have too much depth. The Rays are a great team, but they were destined to lose out on going to the World Series I think.
I'm going for the Astros in the ALCS.
The NLCS should be a good match-up. I'm biased for the Cardinals though.

Apparently the Cardinals decided to take the NLCS off from offense. It was nice to see the pitchers still doing their share though. *SIGH*

It's not easy to win a game when you score only one run. Impossible when you don't score any. With two losses at home and on the road for the next three, the Cardinals are facing an uphill battle but it's not over until it's over.
The Astros came very close to facing the same situation but managed to even their series in extras last night. Late last night. A real nail-biter.

I'm hopeful they can come from behind and even the series and hopefully move on. I'm just less confident than I was after the last two pitiful offensive games from the Cardinals. I'm thinking the ALCS is going to be more exciting.

It's not a good day to be a Cardinals fan. Game four had the Nationals with a 7-0 lead after the first inning. The Cards were able to chip away at a nearly insurmountable lead in the 3rd and 4th innings to make it a 7-4 game but the Nats held the line from there until the end of the game to sweep the NLCS.
