Hi, plugin friends!
Im looking for a plugin that will allow me to generate a link that displays all threads with specific label IDs on a page.
Alternatively, something that would allow users to apply a tag to their opening post on specific boards, that I can create a link to that shows all threads with that tag.
Im not sure if it's possible to do, though! Let me know 🙏🏽

Yes, but that's board-specific. Sorry, I should have been more descriptive in my opening post. I want all OPEN threads, regardless of board, to be able to be displayed in a list.

Hey, KamiI found this old thread - you might find Brian's reply (1st page, 1st reply under OP), interesting. Your request could be doable if (and if I read Brian's reply correctly) the label was placed in the post in order for it to be searchable. Todge did a couple of versions of a Personal Labels plugin in that thread. He may know more if the label can be placed in a post to be searchable, and then having a search show all threads with that. I really don't know, to be honest, if that's doable. But, this might get you a start.

As long as I can customise its appearance to match my (very custom) theme, I have no problem with where this appears as long as it's searchable by all users & the labels are made by staff only.Actually, I've figured out an alternative for this. If someone wants to fill it that would be great, but I'd have a lot of specifics I'd need now that I think about it. If you're interested @ me, but otherwise this can be closed (:

The only way this could be searchable is for the labe name to be included in either a posts' content, or a thread title, and as they use keys, the content can't be copied across.. It would require a complete new plugin, but is possible. I see you have found a way, so if you're happy with that then all is good, but if you would rather a plugin be made, let me know and I'll take a look.

Hey Todge ! The workaround works for me, though I'd love to get your thoughts on a plugin (don't make it yet though, please, I'd need to weigh the pros and cons ). 1. Would it be possible to have the content in the post (not the title) and have it display in the thread listing? I don't like the aesthetic of having [Open] in the thread titles ;x 2. Ideally what I would want to do here is have a link in my "Plot & Discuss" board that says something like, "View all Open Roleplays"; the player then clicks that link/button, which takes them to the search results. Is this possible? If so, how would that results page look? Bonus points if it can open in a new tab so that folks don't have to leave the Plotting board. 3. Would it be possible to restrict label creation to a specific group, but allow the label to be applied to a thread by any member upon thread creation or edit only? (ie, a member can't mark someone else's thread as open, the OP (or a staff member) would have to edit the post to apply the label) 4. In a similar vein, would it be possible to restrict the use of this to a specific set of boards? I have about five or six boards (+ their sub boards) this would be used in, but wouldn't want it elsewhere. 5. Would it be possible to style how this appears within the thread / post? As you're well aware my themes tend to be uh... on the creative side Thanks so much!

Hey Todge ! The workaround works for me, though I'd love to get your thoughts on a plugin (don't make it yet though, please, I'd need to weigh the pros and cons ). I won't.... Yes, though if I put it in the thread title I'd make sure that you didn't see it there. But in the first post content would be better anyhow so that you don't lose any space for the threat title, and if the plugin is removed or stops working, you wouldn't want the label codes to suddenly appear in your thread titles. I would have to do some testing before I can answer this. BUT, going by the way the search function works in V6 that may not be possible when the software is updated, so you may well be restricted to manual searching with V6, and also be stuck with the default way it is displayed. Working with member groups is a pain, but should be possible, but once a thread is created, the only people that would be able to apply a label would be the thread creator or a staff member with the ability to edit posts. Normal members would not be able to apply a label to a thread that has already been created. Restricting a plugin to certain boards is not an issue.. Sub-boards I am not so sure about.. I assume that the plugin would work in any sub-board that is within a board where the plugin is available.. Again, I'd have to do some testing to know for sure. Yes, I would add a style to the labels so that you can style them however you like, and yes, you have some of the most creative themes I have come across.

❤️
1. this sounds great to me! 2. i am not too fussed about v6 at this point; if it doesn't include global searchable labels by default + breaks this plugin, i will just go with what i was planning to do this time around without the plugin 3. perfect. apologies for the pain with limiting label creation to staff though! 4. ok, this would be fairly important--ideally i would like to capture threads inside child boards as well as parent boards. if it's not possible though i'm sure i can figure a way to work with it 5. fantastic. my theme this time around is pretty minimalistic design wise, so i'd love to be able to style this plugin to match
all in all it sounds like this would be a good way to go if you have the bandwidth! i'm hoping to open to the public in ~2 weeks, any chance you'd be comfortable with this timeline?

"3. perfect. apologies for the pain with limiting label creation to staff though!"Limiting a function to staff members is easy... It's specific groups where the pain begins, so no worries. The thing I can see that may be the biggest issue is tying it in with the search function.. Worst case scenario, you may have to search manually, but we will see. 2 weeks shouldn't be a problem, but I hate making promises that I can't stick to.. One question.. Do you want the labels pre-defined within the plugin? Or do you want the 'labeller' to be free to name them as they see fit?

Ah, roger that on the groups. 🤔 With that in mind it would be best if the label is defined in the plugin so that I can prevent non-admins from creating additional labels. Would it be too much of a bother to leave the build open so that I can change it if necessary? I'm comfortable editing js, I just can't write a lot from scratch yet. ^_^;'
A manual search isn't a problem -- basically the primary thing I am looking for is a way to provide users with a list of all RP threads marked as "open". However that needs to be accomplished is A-OK by me.
And no worries on timeline. If you make it you make it but please don't stress yourself out over it! I can always use my workaround in the mean time and add it as a surprise upgrade in the future (:

Hi Kami, I have another quick question.. As the labels are going to be added to the post content, any member that works out the label format would be able to add a label of their choosing to any thread that they create.. Is this an issue for you? And if so, I have a couple of ways to get around it.. I can either add the label as a code, but you may get garbled label if a member tries to add their own label... or I can add a label according to it's position in the list, this would stop un-official labels, but it would mean that if you changed the label list then all the labels of that name would be renamed on your forum... Also, if you sorted the labels differently after some had been created, the existing labels would be changed accordingly.

The second option sounds good to me -- this label will only be used to tag "open" RP threads so it won't ever change, nor would we add additional labels (through the plugin or through PB's native feature) on the boards where this plugin would be active.
