Hi again,
now I would like to use the data values from a form (custom page) and send a PM to me with the values. How could I do that?
ALSO I’VE DONE THE FORM (https://cityofcursedgods.freeforums.net/page/uploadgame)
I see some issues with your setup:
- I can see your form as a guest. Are you intending for guests to see this form?
- You are asking for personal identifying information in the public's eye. You really don't want anyone to see someone else's real name and email address, so how does the form get cleared?
- PM's cannot be automatically sent. This would violate PB's Developer Guidelines.
Possible solution:
1. Create a private board:
Creating a Board that Keeps a Member's Thread Private - this will keep personal information out of the public's eye as well as out of sight for other members.
2. Install the
Custom Post Template plugin - this will allow you to make your form in a post. If you need help with how to set it up, you can view information about the plugin's settings
HERE. If you need further assistance, you can post in the plugin's
support thread.
Set up properly, only the person who creates a thread in that private board and you (the forum creator) will be able to see their thread - no one else will have access to that information. This also means that you don't need to find a way to PM that data to you, as it will be present in the post. You and the thread creator can continue to use that "private thread" as a means of communication if either of you have questions. This also means that, since it's a board, you can set up labels to identify the thread as closed or not - or by some other means of marking the thread's status. Yes, I do know that PM's can be labeled as well. This method works and keeps everything private without the need to go to PM's and trying to figure out how to transfer data from your custom page form to a PM to you.
CAVEATS: Like all plugins, this will not work on mobile (unless the user switches to desktop mode). Also, I have not tested if plugin data is available when it's in a private board (perhaps
Chris can enlighten me on that) - so keep that in mind.
DISCLAIMER: I know how to use that plugin well - I have it running on 1 of my forums. I have NOT, however, dived into the plugin's internal workings to see how it saves data. Personal experience with the plugin leads me to believe that no data is actually saved. If this is true, then none of the personal identifying data would be saved - except in the post (not in a key).
I hope this has been helpful.
