Consistent design like in the doc. Within the doc there are a few areas I have not filed in yet with data if that is what you mean. The overall structure of the doc itself has nothing missing. - Understood - What I mean is, did I display all the data in the doc on the custom page? It's not relevant to me if there's additional data, I just want to make sure that of the data provided, that it's all in. It will make it easier for me to show you how to edit this.

It all looks great! I understand about the 3 pages in the doc. All is good. OK just for clarity (my apologies): - Are we keeping the table coded to match whatever forum theme is active, or would you like it to be a consistent design like in your doc? - There is no actual information missing from the table, it's just showing on one page when the doc shows three pages, correct?

The table looks fantastic! Not sure I understand the title of the table (Maple Groove Pancake Series ) is coded to match the title bar on my forum. Yes I would like to keep the blue bar + white text + font size. Question - will I be able to make edits to the table as needed? Also you example show just one page of the doc. Will the entire doc be shown? Sorry for all the questions but I am learning a lot. Thank you. Title bar matching: So what I mean by this, is that on your forum the title bar (where it says the name of the category, like this) is styled in a particular way. That purple bar with the white text inside is the title bar. I've coded the table so that, no matter what colour that bar may be (whether or not you have themes with different colour schemes, or if you decide to change this particular theme's colour scheme) it will always match the look and feel of the theme, without you having to manually change the colours. Presuming that makes a bit more sense now, does your opinion on the colour scheme of the table change in any way? Re: changes to the table: Yes, you will be able to do that. I will provide a README.txt for you if you like what you see so far (pending the potential change to the title bar appearance) that will go over both how to update the table and add new rows, as well as how to create a completely new table with the same setup. Re: the whole document: My apologies, but the document I opened only had 3 pages and all of those pages were a single table which is reflected on the custom page (bear in mind that word documents introduce "page breaks" if content exceeds the size of an 8.5x11 piece of paper, but websites will show a continuous page). I uploaded this document to google drive so you can see what I received: docs.google.com/document/d/1UugBgANDokLmhI1UsMMbaz0KlSMl-HNq/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=100683740543002330256&rtpof=true&sd=trueIf there is more than that, then if you could try to send me a fresh copy as a .doc instead of a .docx, that would be helpful in determining what information is missing.

Lets give this a try! I have added two selections in my navigation menu called Pancake and Inline Rules. This is where the member mwke the selection to go to the tables I hope! I have only one doc for pancake but will need to do one for inline also. dragracing164size.freeforums.net/View AttachmentThank you for your help! Alan Hello! Before I provide the code, I wanted to show you the table in action on a custom page (link) to make sure it meets expectations. A few things to note: 1. The title of the table (Maple Groove Pancake Series) is coded to match the title bar on your forum -- more specifically, I used the default PB styling for a title bar. It matches my test forum because of that, but when installed on your forum, it will match that purple-y background with white text. If you want to keep the blue bar + white text + font size like in your document please let me know and I'll change it. 2. Similarly, all other styling is set to match your forum's appearance, no matter what theme you use (if you have more than one, or if you change your default theme's appearance). This includes the colour of the text, unless otherwise overridden as indicated by your original table. If you want additional changes (eg, to make the column headers all caps) please let me know. 3. I also did not underline some of the bold text within the contents; it was a little buggy and I didn't have the time to dedicate to debut it extensively. It is however still bold, so hopefully that is sufficient. Let me know what you think! Once any adjustments are complete, I'll send the completed table over, as well as a template and instructions so you can create more tables on your own

Hi guys Jeez l dont know where to start with your questions what to do etc its all above me to be honest...just want someone to help me design a better forum more colourful to the eye.. I didn't ask any questions, I gave you information about what the issue is, why it's an issue, and what you can do to fix it. If all you care about is aesthetics, you can install any of the themes I listed above with the click of a button. This board is not for the purpose of requesting someone to do it for you, however. If you're interested in passing off the responsibility of managing the technical and aesthetic aspects of your forum to someone else, I would recommend posting in the looking for: design assistance thread. Note that there is no guarantee someone will volunteer. All the best, and I hope one day you'll be open to learning more about how to manage your forum.

How in the heck to I attach the word file to a post?. I see nothing to select! There should be an attachment button on the reply page (don't use the quick reply, click the reply button instead to get the full text editor). Click the attachment button, and that should open up a file explorer prompt for you to select a file. Navigate to wherever you have it saved and select that for upload.

Kami - Not knowing anything about all this I think it would not need to be inside a post. By making the selection at the Navigation panel it would take the user directly to the table and bypass any post. HTML Lovely, then send me the table setup when you're ready (as an attachment in a reply post in this thread).

Kami - I just now setup a new Proboards Forum. I have not done anything else to it but set it up. As a reminder I am wanting to add a selection in the Navigation box and when a member selects it, it will take them to my table. Do I need to structure anything in the new forum before you can do your thing? Thank you! Nope! This type of HTML is agnostic to anything else. I just need confirmation if you want it in HTML, or if you want to put it inside a post which would be done in BB Code.

Hello Kami - I have decided to start all over and deleted my board. I will create another one in a few minutes and will send the info to you. I guess you could do what you wanted to do on the new board? I do not need access to your forum to create HTML for you :) The purpose for asking for a link to the forum is (a) as part of this forum's rules, including a link when you need assistance is best practice, and (b) to verify that the support being given is a PB forum -- nothing on you, just a blanket rule here on PB Support as sometimes folks come in to ask for help with other products from other companies. Reply in this thread with whatever item you have the table in, and let me know when you're ready for me to convert it to HTML.

Thank you very much for the information. I am not at all familiar with HTML so I will need help on accomplishing this. Thank you again. Regards - Alan I could have sworn I saw a post from you this weekend with that table -- would you mind reposting it, or have you decided against using HTML?

Okie dokie, I think that's it for this thread. Moving forward, let's make sure that:
a) if there are any issues with a response from another member, please either reach out to a PB mod/admin, or use the "report post" function.
b) if you see members in conflict with each other, but are otherwise not part of the conversation, please keep your thoughts and posts to yourself or reach out to a PB mod/admin with your concerns.
Since the admin on the forum has closed registrations and we are thus unable to further assist, I'll lock this thread to prevent any further issues. If anyone changes their mind about getting assistance on this topic, please feel free to create a new thread, making sure to provide a link to the plugin and the forum (with registration open) in the opening post.
Thanks!

Thank you very much for the information. I am not at all familiar with HTML so I will help on accomplishing this. Thank you again. Regards - Alan If you need help, please provide the document that contains the table, or take a screenshot of the table. You can either upload these somewhere, or you can use the attachment feature to attach it to your post :) I also need the URL to your forum.

I was not sure where to put this on the forum so went here. I have added a selection to my navigation menu. Upon a user making that selection I would like the user to be taken to a table that contains information. I have created a table using WORD which would be very nice to be able to use that. Is this possible? If so an example would be helpful as I am just now getting around in Proboards Thank you Not quite where to put this, but that's OK. This is more of a general coding question than specific template question (for context, the structure of your ProBoards forum is editable in the "layout templates" section of the admin panel, which is what this board is in reference to). In order to do this, you have two options: Option 1: Create a thread and put the document you made in Word containing the table as an attachment to the opening post, and use the post itself to explain the document. Option 2: Create a custom page and use HTML to recreate the table in Word. In both instances, once that is accomplished, you can link to the thread or custom page (whichever route you took) in your menu. My personal 0.02: I would encourage you to use a custom page and HTML as attachments cannot be viewed by guests. If you aren't familiar with HTML, I / other support helpers would be happy to help create it.

Any info would be appreciated thing is lm a click and hope its right when it comes to putting the forum together . When it comes to using the theme libuary if l install can l see what it looks like before l install it ? Its so dull looking would like it to have more colour especially in the background of the boards instead of boring white just want it to look gud .. Any help would be great ...feel so useless .. I'm happy to help, but I have one condition: stop talking down on yourself and stop thinking you "should" know this. This is not a personal failure, and you must be kinder to yourself. More details on this under the spoiler (click the spoiler link to expand), so an already long-post doesn't go too far off tangent. Companies spend hundreds of thousands, if not in the millions and billions, to set up their websites to reach their target audiences and be successful, utilitsing the skills, knowledge, and talent of entire teams of people whose job it is to specialise in this endeavour. If companies need to do that to see any hope of a success story, then why do you expect yourself to automatically know these things and be good at them?
Support board helpers can do this because either a) they've been running communities for a long time, b) they work in this or an adjacent field, or c) all of the above. For me specifically, I've been a community admin for over 20 years, 19 of which were spent on ProBoards forums AND I was a web developer + User Interface/User Experience designer for well over a decade. Even now, my work is adjacent to web/community building as I am now working in video games and I run project management and competitive analysis for my teams that incorporate these skills.
You're fine. Be kind to yourself, because there's no reasonable way to expect yourself to be "good" at this type of work and this type of thinking without help and guidance from someone or multiple someones who have already walked this path. FeedbackTo preface this feedback, please remember to always orient your thinking towards your desired target audience. Any changes you make should have the user in mind, both "potential" users and existing registered users. Organisation & Content- Issue: Too many boards
- Why this is an issue: As mentioned in my last review, it takes approximately 30 seconds for any given user on average to decide whether or not they want to invest additional time in a website or community. A long list of individual boards for very specific topics being available on the home page is a sure-fire way to turn off a lot of potential members. It's too much to absorb within 30 seconds, and so they'll move on to something else.
- How to resolve: Rethink your organisation. Right now you have categories for specific types of moths, then boards for subspecies (or whatever the terminology here is). Instead of this, look at categories as genres of discussion, boards as "folders" for similar conversations, and subboards as "folder pockets" for very specific conversations. As an example, you can create a category called "Moths", boards covering "Hawkmoths", "Saturniidae", and whatever else, then subboards if you think people would want to create a lot of threads for the very very very specific subspecies that may exist for that particular moth species. As a bonus, doing this makes the forum look busier; instead of having 20 boards with 1 thread in each of them, 1 board with 20 threads in them will make it look like there's some good activity.
- Issue: Unclear forum purpose at a glance
- Why this is an issue: Again, 30 seconds. I don't know anything about this forum. I don't know who runs it, I don't know what we're supposed to be doing here, I don't know what type of behaviour we're expected to have, I don't know what topics are or aren't allowed, etc.
- How to resolve: There are a few ways to resolve this, but I'll start with the easiest and go to the more tedious.(1) Change the display name of the forum. "mooksinsectcritters" isn't catchy or clearly informative. You can do this in your admin panel, under forum settings; (2) Similar to the organisation comment above on too may boards, you can use categories to help showcase other parts of your forum. If you have a category for the community, like a place where people can share photographs of bugs they've seen, or a place they can gather talk about things unrelated to bugs, etc, that would go a long way; (3) There needs to be a board or table that explains the forum's purpose, and outlines any rules of how you want the community to engage with each other. Make sure that this information is easy to find (usually by placing the table or board at the top of the forum, under the banner) and is written clearly and concisely.
AestheticsYes, you should be able to preview the themes. The library entries all require at least 1 screenshot of the theme itself. If you add the theme to your forum, you can set the permissions so that only you can see it and then switch your account's profile settings to view the theme in action. If you don't like it, you can simply delete the theme and nothing bad will happen. For the type of forum this is -- moths and bugs and other nature-y things, the following themes may be more along the lines of the aesthetics you're looking for (please note that most themes listed here are created by other PB users, and most themes can be modified for new banners or slight alterations in colour and the like). For what it's worth, Breathe is my favourite of these, but I am a little biased because elli is a good friend of mine, haha. I can also vouch for her work, as she's helped me out with my forum themes before. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions about what I said above!

Thanks for your replies guys much to think about and try to put together.. I see you've opened up your forum to guest viewing, which is a great first step. Would you be open to additional thoughts at this point, or would you like to work on your forum a bit more prior to receiving additional feedback?
