Yeah, that does allow the image to scale down smoothly, but the padding created by other table elements just adds extra unwanted padding above and below the image.
So let's talk other options.
(And, thank you! I am at work, too... 😉.) OK! So uninstall the plugin completely. Hopefully you have not added any CSS to your theme that impacts this plugin, and just in the plugin build, but if you have then remove that too just so there's no unintended effects. How familiar are you with the layout templates? The best way I know of involves using layout templates & some clever HTML/CSS.

Try changing "min-width" and "min-height" to just "width" and "height". I will note that because the image itself is a rectangular image, this fix probably isn't what you're going for.
If it's not, then we can talk about how to actually make this a bit better instead of using the plugin :)

Okay, thanks. Now it's behaving like your test... The image can scale wider than 790px, and back down to its original width of 790px. But it won't scale down any smaller than 790px wide, which is my original goal. Ah right, give me a few minutes to play around (Sorry I'm at work!)

I edited the plugin using Build, but it's not behaving the way your test does. The padding issue is fixed... but only when the image height is set to meet or exceed the height of the board description row (90px). This tells me that the custom images have to be at least 90px tall, which is fine.
What determines the min height of the rows? Is it a CSS setting for the <tr> itself? For the board description container?
Your test allows the image to scale up proportionately, but not scale down. In your test, it still won't get any smaller than its original x dimension. I'm trying to get these images to scale down proportionately.
But, as I said, even with the new code you just provided, I cannot get my image to scale at all, so something ain't right. I've been monkeying with the code for days now, so it wouldn't surprise me if there's some error or bug somewhere.
Finally, I am okay with abandoning the plugin if there is a way to make the board images 'proper images' that will scale up and down with no padding. I know I'd lose the cool fade and text drop down effects, but the scaling and alignment of the forum is more important.
Thanks!
Nav Have you set the width and height in the plugin? If so leave it blank.

Hi, Kami!
Thank you for the response. Yes, I understand the caveats as you have described them. Please proceed with your CSS-based solution(s) for the image sizing and padding issues.
FWIW, look at my forum banner as an example of the type of "responsive" scaling I'd love to see for my placed images. I am using a 'work around' I found here on the support forum where the banner is replaced by the logo, which allowed me to use some code to scale the logo down based on browser width changes.
Your help is very much appreciated!
Nav OK I'm back! So, try the following: Add this CSS to your theme's stylesheet -- alternatively, you can go to Plugins > Build, and select this plugin, then navigate to the "Components" tab and directly edit the plugin CSS. .rfbdi-board_img { min-height: 100%; min-width: 100%; object-fit: cover; vertical-align: bottom; }
td.main.clickable.rfbdi-main { padding: 0; }Important Caveats: - If the user's screen is too SMALL, they will loose the threads / posts / last post columns for any board with an image.
- If the user's screen is too SMALL, the padding 0 will visually disappear because the surrounding containers will effectively cause padding to apply due to their own styling. There's no real way to get rid of this without abandoning the plugin & making the board images proper background images rather than images within divs within the description.
- If the user's screen is too SMALL, you will loose parts of the image as it adjusts to the size of the container (the right side, or the text on the bottom.
- If the user's screen is too BIG, there will be significant quality loss.

Nav Hm, so interestingly, this plugin doesn't actually set your images as background images, it just places the image into the board description itself, then uses some sort of method of adding the hover effect for the description. That does change things a bit, so give me a bit to figure out the best way.

Forum URL: vampire-requiem.freeforums.net/
My forum is nearly complete but I need help with the following:
I am currently using the old plugin "Board Description Images" to show custom images as the board descriptions. In the topmost section labeled "Player Characters", I have inserted one 65 x 790px image for the board titled "Cassian Bartolomeo" to test it. My issue is that the inserted image is locked at its width and height, which is causing some misalignment with the forum table columns when the browser width is reduced.
My forum width is set to 85% of the browser window. On desktop, the forum table looks great on a large HD (2560 x 1440) display. But when the browser window width is reduced to ~2000px or lower, the Board column in the "Player Characters" section no longer compresses at the same rate as the columns in the other sections below. The vertical border lines that make up the last 3 columns of the forum table break alignment. See attached image here:
If you continue to shrink the browser window further, the problem gets worse. The custom image placed by the plugin doesn't scale at all. It appears to be locked at its original width of 790px, which prevents the Board column in the Player Characters section from reducing below 790px wide.
I want the forum to be able to scale down to widths below 790px so that it looks good on mobile, tablet and smaller monitors.
1) How do I make the custom images inserted by the plugin scale responsively?
2) How do I remove the padding around the custom images so that the images fill the full height and width of the table cell in which they are placed?
If there are better ways to accomplish what I'm trying to do without using the plugin, I'm all ears.
Thank you for your assistance!
Nav Short answer for image size: you can't, exactly. Long answer for image size: plugin or not, images are a static size — X by Y pixels, generally speaking. In order to responsively resize them, you would either: a) need very very large images that take a while to load in order to use a css property of "cover" so it will adjust to the size of the container with no quality lost; b) use an SVG image; or c) be okay with larger screens experiencing a sub optimal image that is blurry and difficult to see. That said, some CSS should set you right (with the caveats above) for images, as well as the padding; if this is still something you're after let me know! (I am currently in mobile so I need to be on my desktop to grab the specific classes)

Forum URL: qb64.boards.net/Why was this forum suspended? ?? As one of the people behind qb64.com, I have a lot of questions as to why this was terminated... additionally, there is literally no reason given. Is this how you treat people in the community? WHAT THE ACTUAL *&@#$&)@#($&@#$$#@?!?!?!?! [Disclaimer, I am just a volunteer helper] Hello! Unfortunately, TOS-related deletions are not handled here on the main Support forum. I would advise that the main admin of the forum (this is usually the person who actually created the forum, or the person to whom ownership was transfered through official transfer here on ProBoards Support) send an email to abuseteam@proboards.com to further inquire. Sorry it's not a more immediate resolution! Edit, whoops, a Michael beat me to it!

Thank you. I just restricted it to registered users only. At least young kids can't just see it immediately anymore. Usually kids need parents permission to sign up for things on the web. Yes, though generally speaking all users on ProBoards must be over the age of 13, which excludes them from that requirement. This is why PB enforces a PG13 content rating, regardless of 'protections' that may be enacted.

Not sure if this is the right board to ask this question..... I belong to a forum that I visit only occasionally. Every once in a while they send an email with a link to "what I have missed" since my last visit. It then links to the forum with a summary of those items. If I wish to respond to any of the threads I then have to sign in. Would it be possible for our proboards forum to create such a feature? You can turn on notification options in your account settings for the specific ProBoards forum you're interested in getting notifications from; however, every user must individually opt-in to these emails as per privacy laws.

Hi Kami Yes, it would very much interest me. Sorry for the delay in reply! So basically, what you would do (for each theme, so if you have multiple themes you need to find where these lines are, particularly if the theme is a customised or pre-made theme) is go to the Home template in Admin > Structure > Layout Templates. You can change the theme in the top left of the page, in the dropdown. Around line 29 (this is on a default theme; your current theme looks mostly default for layouts, so it should be approximately there) is the start of the info centre. Look until you see these: $[recent_threads_link] - $[recent_posts_link] In a NEW TAB, open up the search page. In the right-hand side of the page, there's a section where it asks you WHERE to search. Look for the option "In the category" and select your RP categories. Leave everything else blank, select "display results as threads" and click search. The subsequent page should show you all of the threads, in reverse-chronological order (ie: newest first), from the RP categories. Take the URL in your address bar, then copy it. In the TEMPLATES tab, replace the $[recent_threads_link] variable with <a href="yoursearchURLhere">Recent Threads</a> -- Repeat the above steps for recent posts, except instead of selecting display results as threads, select "as posts". If you have multiple threads, you can now just copy those links that you just created and paste them into the appropriate place. Hope this helps!

So, I am on a forum ( themightyjungle.proboards.com/ ) and we are wanting to figure out how anything in our Social Network Category won't count towards recent post? We really only want out RP Post to be seen in recent post. I have no idea how to do that or what plug in to use. If I am understanding right, you don't actually want to see all recent posts, just recent in-character posts? If so, there's no real way to do that while still having other areas be visible. My best suggestion would be to replace the Recent Posts (and Recent Threads, if the same desire exists) link with a search parameter link instead. Would that be of interest to you? You'd have to do it for every theme you have.

Forum URL: perfect-game.proboards.com/We are having commish issues in our fantasy baseball forum. Is there a way to make an exact copy of the current board under a new URL? nope. you'll have to either resolve the issues with that person, or branch out and make your own forum.
