I wonder what the old folk of America would think of you burning the American flag? Especially the founding fathers of this country. Would the founding fathers of this country (the ones who all of you flag-burners support) approve of flag burning? Would be more concerned about how their country became so corrupt in its politics than a few people burning a flag.

isnt burning the flag the same as burning paper? I mean...its basically cloth. The goverment makes it seem like the flag is what holds a country together

Its vandalism & disrespectful, why are so many people having trouble grasping that FACT, or is the real question here that its the American flag & not a 3rd world countries flag we are on about, i reckon the argument would be more 'protect the flag' if it was a little nation that imposed this, think about it people, it just reeks of anti American/ Western feeling here, after all the Iraq war is still a hot topic!

Really its just a piece of cloth, if a person owns the flag and decides to burn it, then they should be quite within there rights to destroy there property.

There is a limit to what you can reasonably do under the first admendment.Say you start a religious cult like Jim Jones did ... and poison people to actual death like he did ,rather then freeing these people from a very dangerous man .He would no longer be in the right of freedom of religion .He would have committed acts of mass murder.Which he did.Now take for instance the Right to freedom of speech. If i used my freedom of speech to say ... so and so did this .. he did that ... without any proof that he did so .If this harmed him in anyway.. or even percieved harm.I would be guilty of slander... and i could be sued.So yes they are your given rights, but there are limits to them ... that are in my view very reasonable limits.
Back before the 1960's If anyone burned the flag of the united states.I promise you the people would have been furious ,and would have found some way to hold said person accountable.

So burning a flag, in your opinion, without harming any- thing or one (except for said flag, of course) is not protected by the First, as it is limited? Sure, I agree withwhat you said, there are limitations to the First, but burning a simple piece of cloth can not be limited. And we're not living in or before the 1960s anymore. People have changed; views have changed. Now, in this day and age, most people don't give a damn what you burn.

The world has changed greatly since then. Ignorant comment sir, those people are still alive, they still have a say in this country! We are talking about peoples views in the 21st century, not the 20th century.
To live in the past in that way is to life a sheltered life and does not take into account peoples changing attitudes to changing times. You watch the news and how many old people do you see on it that are disgusted by this government this and this government that and I did not fight in a war to see those politicians remove my rights.
Ignorant comment I dont think so.

Just a piece of cloth that MANY people in America find a symbol of their nation & something to be proud of, go anywhere in the world, you would find people of all colours flying their particular flag, i see your statement as a bit ignorant to patriots around the world who have fought wars under a particular flag. So does the country change if you change the flag? So its ok for people to commit a random act of disrespect & vandalism then? People who protest do it against a certain government in the main, why burn the flag, the flag is for everyone not just the powers that be! How is it "random" or "vandsalism"? I didn't say that people should be free to walk into a shop and burn its entire collection of flags, but if someone goes to a shop, buys one, takes it home and then chooses to burn it during a protest march (for example), then what's the problem? As for it being disrespectful - that's basically the idea of burning the flag in the first place. But banning flag burning will simply mean that burning the flag becomes a more rebellious act.

But is it a change for the better .. I dont think so .I think the liberals ,and those people who complain and moan about every little thing , no matter what it is are to blame sorry, but this is something from an educated oppinion stand point here.People have gotten to the point where they just dont care anymore.if it doesnt effect them as an individual they dont care, but what about the harm that something does to others. You might see it as ok i can burn the flag .. in " Protests " ... but what about those 200,000,000 soldiers past and present who see this on the news. What do you think they are saying about that.Did i really lose my arm fighting for freedom ... so some joker can do this to a symbol that i fought to protect.Did i really just lose 12 of my friends ... so someone could vandalize and desecrate something that i just spent the twelve years fighting for .The freedoms that are given to the people. Can you imagine how these people feel .I can i have had family members who have fought in just about every war america has been in .I come from along line of military personnel.I was medically discharged myself .. So i can see how they feel about it .Remember before you do something .Think about the people it will hurt. You want to protest against the powers that be peacefully sure go ahead. It is your given right ,but do it in a reasonable ,and responsible, and a manner dictated by common sense.
