The point is those who deface what the government could consider property of the people. When there are so many against flag burning .Is trouble I am not saying that the government should or should not pass this law,but everytime a flag is burned someone should at least be fined for it.Sure we have freedom of speech that can not be denied to us,but we also must use common sense and common decency, as well as Think what the flag represents before you decide to just go off and destory it.

It's just a FLAG.
There's millions of them. Why not rather protect the PEOPLE than the flag?
Everyone across the globe knows how the American flag looks like and it has caused both good and extremely bad reactions.
It shouldnt be that way.
Sure it represents the USA, but everyone should have the right to not agree with USA. So if you're born there, you HAVE to respect the USA? Who's going to tell me that? It's not like I had a choice where I was born.

A flag absolutely represents a country and it's people. That's what a symbol does - it represents something. A flag is a symbol. This one represents America - its history, its present, its people, everything. Then on that same basis, does your avatar here represent you, your hairstyle, your school grades, and everything else about you? Someone seeing a flag with no historical knowledge of the country would not know the meaning or significance of it ("Oh, it has some stars on, how pretty. Don't like the stripes so much though, a nice gradient would have looked better"), so as a representation of America is it really all that effective? A flag is just a piece of cloth with a symbolic design on it. Any country is the same country whether their flag is up in the air over a football stadium, or a pile of ashes on the floor. Those who value their flag as a symbol should therefore be aware of the significance of it being burnt in protest, and those who don't value it in the same way should not have an issue with it.

it's already illegal in Ohio - I see no harm in sharing the joy of anti-desecration.

Can You even Imagine How many people Have died Defending what the Flag Represents. To burn such a thing ... is to disrepect those who have died defending it .It is a disgrace to burn what the flag Symbolizes, and it Should be against the Law to do so . I agree. Can You even Imagine How many people Have died Defending what the Flag Represents. To burn such a thing ... is to disrepect those who have died defending it .It is a disgrace to burn what the flag Symbolizes, and it Should be against the Law to do so . Even though the only proper way to get rid of one is to burn it, as dictated by national law? The proper way is to cut the stripes apart from the stars and burn the red stripes together and the white stripes together, then burn the stars separately... You don't just gas it and light a match... Can You even Imagine How many people Have died Defending what the Flag Represents. To burn such a thing ... is to disrepect those who have died defending it .It is a disgrace to burn what the flag Symbolizes, and it Should be against the Law to do so . No my friend. They were fighting for America, and its beliefs, not a silly little flag. A flag doesn't represent a country, the people do. The flag represents both the country and the people. The only way a flag ever should be burned is if it hits the ground in battle. That is the only way that is ever remotely close to moral.Inkjet You have it wrong .The symbol of the Flage speak a heck of alot louder then you will ever know .The American Flag Means more to americans then just it being cloth .So Yes it represents the Nation in its own way .Anyone who burns an American flag ... That has not fallen in battle .Should be held accountable for said action . I agree again. In the free country, I feel you can protest in various ways, as long as its not extreme... I don't define "extreme" myself, but I do think that burning the flag could be done. Its not looked upon as a very good thing to do, but it shouldn't be against the law, it does no one any harm. Yes, it does. Burning the flag in this manner is disrespecting every soldier who has fought and died for this country. The Flag is a Symbol of Honor, Morality ,and Integrity .In my opinion anyone who burns the American Flag has none of those things . I agree yet again. I'm strongly against any burning of the flag--if you want free speech, get a blog. Yell. Hit a pillow. Burn a picture of President Bush, if you hate him. But to burn the symbol of one of the few bastions of freedom in the modern world? To scorn and revile those who have died to protect our freedom? To be frank, I have no tolerance for those who wish to deface our flag. I think anyone who does such should be shipped of to Cuba, where they can try practicing free speech and seeing where it gets them. Amen.

Goverment needs to get priorities straight.....this country is not based on We the flags...its We The People....and to choose cloth over a person right is wrong...our soldiers dont go fighting for cloth, they fight for freedom .....the flag doesn't represent freedom to some, and therefore should have the right to protest it as such...

Some people see the Flag of their nation as sacred, something thta is part of them, what HARM is it doing to protect the flag of a nation, honestly some of you people have such ridiculous politically correct minds that it is beyond belief, or is it because this is the American flag we are talking about, i bet if it was a Palestinian flag you would all be going, respect the flag, respect the flag, remember people its the American flag they are on about here, the way some of you are carrying on its like its the flag of Hitler's NSDAP that is being protected. I wish here in England it was an offence to burn the Union or St George flags, i seen them burnt a few times by Muslim fanatics, total disrespect for the country they are GUEST in!

Those who value their flag as a symbol should therefore be aware of the significance of it being burnt in protest, and those who don't value it in the same way should not have an issue with it. So its ok for people to commit a random act of disrespect & vandalism then? People who protest do it against a certain government in the main, why burn the flag, the flag is for everyone not just the powers that be!

I live in what I thought was a free country, I will protest in any way I see fit. If it involves the burning of a flag, then so be it. This is just another way for the government to take control of the nation, forcing the people to keep quiet and not express themself. I wonder if they forgot the actual meaning of the First Amendment.

I wonder what the old folk of America would think of you burning the American flag? Especially the founding fathers of this country. Would the founding fathers of this country (the ones who all of you flag-burners support) approve of flag burning?

The founding fathers are no longer around, so whether or not they approve is totally absurd.

People who protest do it against a certain government in the main, why burn the flag, the flag is for everyone not just the powers that be! I have fought in a war for a country that holds that flag...and I still think its a person right to choose. I didn't fight for a cloth I fought for the rights of freedom in which supposedly the flag is suppose to stand for. But reguardless of what its suppose to represent its a peiece of cloth. The goverment is choking the very thing we americans hold dear... our freedoms....freedom of speach and expressions . And a goverment punishing those who areBurning the flag in protest of this very action reason is a bit ironic to say the least. A flag is to our country what the liberty bell and the statue of liberty are....symbols . Our goverment should be more concerned with the people instead of objects. The only exception to this is , if the property didn't belong to them and was of historical value...but a purchases a flag at say walmart and burning it in protest should be anyones right.
