This is more of a sermon thana debate.....
THE BIBLE IS JUST A BOOK! *gasp* "But It htought it was the word of God?" Wrong! The Word of God is founf within the Bible, but it is not the Bible itself.
The Tarah (OT) was created over 2000 years ago...before Jesus. It was written through God. Then Jesus came. The books were ridden on aprchemnts, not a book like in the Modern Day Bible. They were seperated.
Then the first printed book came: The Bible!
It was amazing as it had all those books those old guys had written it. It showed people how to live. While crimes may have happened and some things it was overall a good place to live in. Then...people started to go away on what was in the Bible...THE WORD OF GOD sometime in the early 30s.
Ever since then rape has increased and many other crimes. The world is not a better place, but a worse place since we started to remove the Word of God found within the Bible. Such as drive0by shootings.

It is not the bible that is flawed there is nothing wrong with the bible itself .Its mankinds interpitation of it, which is totally flawed.God and Jesus gave us a guide to live in peace, and total respect and love, but god also warned use over oh 6,000 years ago that we can actually know of for fact of mankind. There shall be wars and rumors of wars .There shall be plagues upon the earth .I think He was trying to tell use the more we work together, then against one another, the less hardships, and pain we have to deal with , so not nothing wrong with the bible, its mans flawed interpitation of it .

Personally..I believe that 99.99999% of whats in the bible should not be taken literally. Only thing that I believe to follow is the 10 commandements..well..try to follow.
But, most of what is written is not..fact. Its just...stories. Stories that have themes, stories meant to give you an insight into life, which is a lot of stoires do. I see it as a 'greater book' becuase I believe in God..but I don' think that becuase we have 'gone away form the bible' crime has increased. It is more the way our style of living has come. Our nature has created those crimes...man has. God gave us the free will..we chose it for wrong. I highly doubt that all of the hardships in this world are caused because we don't 'follow the Word of God'. I just don't see it that way.
Also, I guarantee that there were just as many crimes back then as there are now.

If anyone was actually confused as to the fact that the words written in the Bible were the word of God, and not the book at self, please raise your hand, because I would be amazed.
Of course the book itself isn't his word? That's like saying the keyboard I am typing on is the word of James.
It's what is in the book, and that should be obvious.

Waaaait, you mean since we removed all the immoral things like stonings, and women being inferior and such like that, that the world has become a worse place ? That's not arguable at all. *cough*

The Bible teaches some good morals, but really there's nothing to conclusively prove it's any more special a book than any other religious book, or even any other moral code. Considering every religion considers itself to be the only "true" religion, and they can't all be right, the chances of it being Christianity over any other religion are actually fairly low.
Having said that, there are some valuable lessons that can be learnt from the Bible, and some of the moral standards set are worth following even in today's society.

I believe the Bible, God's infallible written Word, the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments. I believe that it was uniquely, verbally and fully inspired by the Holy Spirit and that it was written without error (inerrant) in the original manuscripts. It is the supreme and final authority in all matters on which it speaks. ;D Love n' Hugs, YSIC \o/ KristiAnn MsGuidedAngel

I believe that there isn't much wrong with the bible except that sometimes I think things may have been left out either by mistake b/c of misinterpretation or on purpose. Regardless, I think it all has to do with humanity flaws, not so much the book itself. (although like I mentioned earlier, it could have been altered b/c of misunderstandings which is a human flaw indeed. )

Good one People also say that the bible could have been written by mad men or ppl who were set out to decieve. I would argue that God would not of allowed this to happen with his book, also many things in the bible apply now. The bible even refers to 2 towers falling, and it has happened. God Bless
