Affiliates are a great way to advertise your website and create great bonds with other admins/forums. That may be an advantage, but a disadvantage is when you stumble upon a site you think you would love to affiliate with, they have those nasty rules.
Such as: -More than 100 Members -More than 2,000 Threads -More than 4,000 Posts -More than 50 Active Members -More than 10 Staff -Etc..
These rules are hopeless, in my opinion.

Affiliates work for me. I've drawn in a few members with affiliates. I think affiliating with larger forums works since there will be more people who see your affiliate, but any size works. However, some sites you affiliate with may close or get inactive, so I clean out my affiliates every once in a while. All in all, I think they work and I don't see any cons about them except for the closing/inactivity of the site.

Yup, I use affilates on most of the forums I'm involved with. I quite like the idea ; I think it is a good way of advertizing, perhaps even better than simply posting an ad on the site. It can get a bit messy with so many affilates, but so far it's been good, for me. ^-^

thank you! i like this code alot. if anyone who doesnt do well with codes wants a tip, you can replace the red part of the code ( model shown below ) with an image or message or basically anything.
table align="center" border="0" width="92%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" class="bordercolor"> <tr> <td> <table cellpadding="4" cellspacing="1" border="0" width="100%"> <tr> <td class="titlebg" align="center" colspan="3"> <font color="FFFFFF" size="2"> <b><center>Affiliates</font></center></b> </td> </tr> <tr> </td> <td width="70%" class="windowbg2" align="center"> <!-- Begin Mini Banners --> <P> <marquee height="50" width="700" onmouseover="this.stop()" onmouseout="this.start()" direction="left" scrollamount="3");"><font face="verdana" color="#000000">
<center>
<a href="URL OF SITE" Target="_blank"> <img src="URL OF BANNER" width=88 height=31 border=0 alt="BANNER NAME"></a>
</center></font></marquee>
<!-- End Mini Banners --> </td> <td width="30%" align="center" class="windowbg"> <img src="URL OF YOUR BANNER"> <textarea rows="2" name="S1" cols="20">THE HTML CODE FOR YOUR BANNER</textarea></form> </td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table>

To those who have problems with too many affiliates and slow loading times. I would suggest heading over to wormocodes.com/index.cgi and take a look at his Fading Affiliate Table code. It allows you to have an endless number of affiliates but only display 12 at a time. And the loading time won't slow because you only have 24 images loading. (I say 24 because there are 2 images in each cell 1 of them is under the other and as the top one fades a new picture is loaded behind the other one in a never ending cycle.)

I have been weighing up the options about this all week and I have decided to attempt to affiliate with a couple of boards. I have to admit I am a really nervous about this, especially when I am reading about the conditions some boards have in place. Members and Guests visiting my site have severely dropped of late and I am worried this will put potential affiliates off and I feel this will be unfair because a couple of us are posting constantly. I was going to set up the table first then ask other sites, but I see this threads opening advice is to ask a few sites first. Oh well, here goes!

Remember to leave the option for Guests to affiliate with you. I was wondering why no one was requesting to affiliate with me then I realized that I made the affiliate requests thread in a section where only members could reply. If you rather not make a new thread for guests you may consider simply leaving your email address.

For some reason all of the affiliates stack up on top of one another, hiding under the ads. Is there a reason for this, and can it be fixed to go some other way (preferably in a 2-row style)? My site is: www.zoidsinfiniteera.proboards.com
