I understand you are working on a solution for the email problem, but is there anything we can do in the meantime to activate the members manually?

As an admin, I personally have hated this stupid activation business since it was introduced. I have had many members having problems with getting their head around it, consequently I have lost several members. I am glad it will be an optional feature and I hope it stays that way, for our own peace of mind. Young lads today know how to get around the banning system, I have even had them change their IP so activation is no threat whatsoever! They even can lie about ages gmail is still the best one for Proboards activations though.

i agree that we should make this permanent. I heard that this may be an optional fature in V5, so why not implement it earlier?

I think this is great! Since about 3 days ago, I can no longer recive the actavation email for any of the boards I sign up to. I needed to use my aol or gmail account(which ruins my use for the email I have now)

There has ALWAYS been some form of email activation where you need to get an email. Before V4, you got emailed a random password (which you needed to check with your email), and in v4 you can pick your password, but have an activation email. These were needed to verify the owner of the address. Its for that reason users who arnt activated, will not recieve things like mass emails, thread notifications etc. As you have not proven the account is yours, we dont want to spam a random person. There are reason things are done

Well I have a forum as well at forumup, there it's possible to activate the members manuel, if they don't receive their activation code, which is pretty good, but then again I did know most of the users who didn't get their activation code.
But yes it's nice that we can get some sort of end to all this, I've noticed that it's mostly people with aol, hotmail, mugglepost and ntl (or what ever it's called), who don't get their activation code, well at my 99 board anyway.
Wasn't it today it would be possible to choose or was it next Tuesday??? Have to check, hehehe.

As well as the activation solution, the spell checker should be used, especially on here some of the spelling and grammer is so dreadful for young people, I can't understand some of the posts. No wonder the mods can't help

Forum: nigelstravels.proboards102.com/index.cgiThanks in advance for fixing this problem. I am an admin of the above board and recently changed my address. I changed it on Sunday, and have no received the activation e-mail. I hope when this problem is fixed the default is not to have it in place, so that I can go in and do what I need to do on my own board. The reason I'm posting is that I've been reading the messages on this subject and I thought I'd just chime in to say that I've tried two different e-mail accounts and none of them are Yahoo or Hotmail. They are optonline.net and operamail.com. The address I'm switching from is nac.net. I was successful at receiving the activation code for two other forums I am a member of. One was wenham.proboards28.com/index.cgi and the other was wenhamthyme.proboards78.com/index.cgi? It's just the one listed at the top of this post that I'm struggling with. Thanks again.
