There is alot of Internet slang floating around in cyberspace, and the same holds true for ProBoards Support, and from members that may register on your board. Some of this slang or terminology is Internet wide, others are strictly Proboards.
Below, I will list some Proboards terminology and slang, taken straight from the good members here at ProBoards Support.
But please be aware, I am only going into definitions. Anything further then that, then I'll send you to the right place that slang, feature, or terminology is explained in great depth.
In some boards, such as Support, and GOAYB, we consider bumping to be back to back posts. Therefore we have certain rules. In Support, you may only bump your thread once every 24 hours, as the staff there works from the bottom up.
In GOAYB you may bump your thread once every 4 hours, as no one would get a chance to receive a rate if everyone could bump at will.
[/li][li]e-fed - Electronic Federation, which is an Internet based professional wrestling league/role playing game.
[/li][li]Emu - ProBoards Unofficial Mascot: (Thanks Sparky for the image. )
[/li][li]FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions. You may find the tech support FAQ HERE. You should also should read the GT FAQ/Guidelines. Reading the Rules, FAQ's and sticky threads of a board before you post is a very good idea.
[/li][li]Flame, Flaming, Flame Wars - This term is basically an all out fight over the Internet, usually accompanied by empty, yet extreme threat and/or insults. A lot of swearing, and rule violations are involved, hence the 'WAR' in Flame Wars.
[/li][li]Forum - A forum is the name of an entire ProBoard. For example one may say "That's a nice Tech forum you have!"
[/li][li]GDR - Graphics Design Requests
[/li][li]GFX - Graphics
[/li][li]GMod - Global moderator
[/li][li]GOAYB - Means Get Opinions About Your Board, which is the name of one of our boards
[/li][li]Googlebots - Sometimes board owners have a lot of guests who are not registering or posting. You member only boards have a guest or two in them. That is nothing to worry about. They are merely Googlebots.
Googlebots crawl your web site assimilating information for placement of your ProBoard on their search engine. This is a good thing, as they are helping you advertise, and are helping you get hits to your Proboard. A googlebot cannot access anything that a guest cannot access, so don't be alarmed.
[/li][li]Gradients - Gradient is any image used in the title, category, or menu bars. Some people like to use straight colors, for example a web site separator, or a piece of the background. Others like for one color to gradually flow into another.
You can check out GOAYB for many, many boards. Click on some of them, and you get a better idea of what a gradient is, and how people use them differently.
The code to add gradients can be found in the FAQ thread in the support board.
[/li][li]Hack - If someone tells you they have a 'hack' for your board, do not be alarmed. A hack is slang for a javascript, or any type of coding to modify and attempt to improve your board.
[/li][li]Hex Codes - A hex code is numbers which represent different colors on the color spectrum. When writing a code, such as HTML, or CSS, you would need to but a numerical sign in front of your hex numbers. For Example #000000 would be black. #FF0000 would be Red. In your admin area, in ProBoards, you do not need to add the '#' symbol, just the numbers.
As for adding colors using code such as HTML, PHP, CSS, "ect". you will find all of the information you need in our Coding and Design Boards
There some good color charts with the hex numbers in the ProBoards Color Chart For Beginners Thread.
[/li][li]Hotlinking - Read HERE to find out more on hotlinking. Hotlinking is not only against the ProBoards TOS, but it is illegal, as you are stealing bandwidth from someone else.
If you are caught hotlinking on your board, it will be deleted.
What you can do, is use some free image hosts:
www.imageshack.us
www.photobucket.com
www.villagephotos.com
[/li][li]Huggles - 'Huggles' is a word created by one of our moderators; Enchant.
The word, meaning kindness, friendship, and hugs has become a ProBoards phenomenon.
If you want to offer a good gesture toward someone, give 'em a huggles.
[/li][li]IP / IP Address - A number that identifies each sender or receiver of information that is sent in packet across the Internet. Each computer that is online can be identified by it's IP number, much like how a vehicle can be identified by it's license plate.
Look at the bottom right of my post. See where it says logged? The server has logged my IP for the sole reason that Proboards Support can ban me by my IP if I don't behave.
If you are an administrator on your board, you will be able to see others' IP numbers. There is a quick ban option in the profile, but seeing the IP numbers also helps to identify a person who is using a different identity to cause trouble.
[/li][li]j00 - "j00" is also 1337 or leet speak. However here on ProBoards it is often use in a joking manner. Example: j00 n00b!
That is so ridiculous, it could only be taken as a joke.
[/li][li]LOL - lol - Laughing Out Loud.
[/li][li]M8 - Stands for Mate
[/li][li]Meh - Meh basically means "whatever" with no excitement.
[/li][li]Mod - Moderator
[/li][li]Noob, n00b, ect. - There are so many definitions of this word, it would virtually impossible to pinpoint all of them.
As I understand it, it was born in the online gaming world. However, here on ProBoards it is a derogatory word, and insult, as a n00b is either someone who knows the rules, yet refuses to follow them, or they are someone who thinks they know everything, and will not read the rules, believing they are above the rules.
[/li][li]'nuff - 'nuff is an inside joke among members and staff. It originated one day after Patrick Clinger (ProBoards owner, and founder) brought a new server online. He wrote something like: "Sever 40 is online. 'nuff said."
Somehow the 'nuf became a character, so now each time a new server is brought online, one of the administrators will create a thread with either "'nuff" as the thread title and body text, or with 'nuff said.
[/li][li]OMG - Oh My God!
[/li][li] Orange - Click Here With Caution It's an inside joke, ask the Orange! ;D
[/li][li]PB - Initials for ProBoards
[/li][li]PBS - Initials for ProBoards Support
[/li][li]PLZ - Please
[/li][li]PM - PM's - PM stands for personal, or private message. You may access this feature by clicking on the 'Hey X You have x messages, x are new'. If you wish to PM someone, you click on their profile by clicking on their name, and you'll see the option to PM them. Also, in your friends post whom you want to PM, you'll see this button:
Now, click that icon, and see what happens. ;D
[/li][li]Post Indicators - This term can be confusing for new members. All a post indicator is is an image telling you if there is new post in a board you have not read, or that there are no new posts. By default, your ProBoard will come with a set that looks like these:
New Posts

You may also use custom post indicators, ones you have design yourself.
[/li][li]PS - Generally means Photoshop
[/li][li]PSP Generally means Paint Shop Pro, but now can also mean PlayStation Portable
[/li][li]PWNED - Originally "Owned" it is a term that means loss, humiliated, proven wrong, put in his/her place, ect.
[/li][li]Remotely Hosted - You may seen ProBoards labeled as the Internet's number 1 FREE Remotely Hosted Message Board Service.
Remotely Hosted means you do not have to download anything in order to run your own board. You do not have to worry about keep your server up, no worries of keeping intruders out, no worries of anything.
ProBoards hosts your board on their servers, and does all of the work while you enjoy your ProBoard.
[/li][li]RPG - Role Playing Game(s)
[/li][li]Sig (or Siggy) Sig stands for signature. It is the space at the very bottom of your profile, and at the very bottom of your posts.
You may add text in there, you may add images in there or you may even advertise your board or website in there.!
(Note: images in your sig may be no larger then 500 x 250 in pixels)
Spam / Spamming - Spamming an Internet forum is when a user posts something which is off-topic or doesn’t have anything to do with the current subject. Also, a post that doesn’t contribute to the thread whatsoever is also considered spam in some cases. A third form of Forum Spamming is where a person repeatedly posts about a certain subject in a manner that is unwanted by (and possibly annoying to) the general population of the forum.

[/li][li]SSD - Initials for Solid Snake Designs
[/li][li]Teh Often a typo, but sometimes used a leet / 1337 talk.
[/li][li]TMC - Stand for 'Too Many Connections'. That was common problem ProBoards has until the servers were upgraded, and more servers were added to distribute the sheer amount of ProBoard users load.

[/li][li]ub3r - Another 'leet' work for cool, or in most cases super. Example: Dude, y0 b3 ub3r c00l!?"
[/li][li]UBBC - UBBC stands for Universal Bulletin Board Code. This type of coding is what we can use to format our posts.
I am now typing in red text. How did I do that? It's simple. I just typed in then added my sentence, then added the closing tag, which was
All Seeing Eyes has made a wonderful UBBC FAQ right here.
[/li][li]Where is Ryan? Ryan no longer works for ProBoards.
[/li][li]Woo--Bug - The Woo-Bug was a bug in ProBoards Version 3 (We are currently in version 4). the indexing problem would come along and make all of the threads in a certain board disappear. This happened a few times a week. The only way to fix it was to use the 'fix a board' option in your admin area.
Since the release of version 4, I've seen the indexing problem maybe once. It only happens on board of this size when so many thread entries are posted all at once.
It's nothing for anyone to worry about, but I included it if you hear someone speak of it, you'll know what they mean.
[/li][li]profile clearing bug - the registration date bug that messes up a user's profile making you unable to login, and when the admin restores your account, your registration date gets changed to December 1969. So named because Woop was the first person on PB support reported with that bug.
[/li][li]w00t - A text emotion of exclamation or excitement.[/li][/ul]
Special Thanks to:
Thanks to the above members for helping me come up with slang/terminology items to define here. If I've missed someone, I apologize.
NOTE: All off topic posts will be deleted and can warrant warnings or bannings.
Below, I will list some Proboards terminology and slang, taken straight from the good members here at ProBoards Support.
But please be aware, I am only going into definitions. Anything further then that, then I'll send you to the right place that slang, feature, or terminology is explained in great depth.
ProBoards Terminology & Slang Definitions
- 1337 Speak - 1337 or 'leet' speak is Internet slang. They speak like that for whatever reason, perhaps they think they're speaking in code, or perhaps they think they are looking cool. However, it is considered spam here on ProBoards Support
- Admin - Administrator. Most commenly reffered to the main administrator of the froum, the person who actual registered the forum and whose username is "admin"
- Affiliate - On Proboards, affiliation is 2 boards exchanging banners. For example, you place my mini banner on your board, so I can get some hit from your board, and I'll place your mini banner on my board, so you can get some hits.
The common size of a mini banner on ProBoards is 88x31 - Avatar - An avatar is an image that may be placed in your profile and it will show up in each of your posts on the left.
Avatar limits are 100 x 100 and will size down a larger image to 100 x 100 on it's own. However, while the image may look smaller, it is not. The byte size is still the same, and it load lower for people. I once saw a guy using an 800 x 600 image as an avatar.
If you have an image and you cannot size it down, our friendly members and mods will help you in Graphic Design Requests. - Ban Hammer or Banana Hammer - Those two phrases are simply an adjective meaning banned.
- Ban Land - When you are to be banned, a staff member here at ProBoards will say something on the lines of, "You are on a one way trip to Ban Land!". If you get a post what says "You are almost ready to take a one way trip to Ban Land!" or something similer, you better clean up your act.
- Board - A board is a division inside a forum where members (and sometimes guests) post.
- Bump
In some boards, such as Support, and GOAYB, we consider bumping to be back to back posts. Therefore we have certain rules. In Support, you may only bump your thread once every 24 hours, as the staff there works from the bottom up.
