can i have a music on my pro bourd? Please ask this in the Support board as this thread is reserved for debating whether or not it's a good idea to use music on your ProBoard. Before adding music, I'd read this entire thread, then please be sure to read the rules.

I'm both ways on it, but I'm more towards not liking music on websites. Usually I come across sites that blare music, intentional or not. It's loud, it takes awhile to load, and it takes a while to find how to turn it off. I like browsing without music, and I do think it's a bit more annoying than it is useful. It affects slower connections as well, which is why when I used to use dialup, I never put music on any of my sites. Even when running at its fastest, it loaded very slow. In general, I think no music is beter than having music. Granted, it does give a good experience to some users, but to me, it's just annoying. My words exactly.

Okay, i've definitely changed my opinion about this. I was just browsing some forums, listening to Christina Aguilera (hey, I like her song) and I had the volume turned low. Then, out of nowhere, when I was visiting a Warriors forum comes the Pirates of the Caribbean theme song, blasting. It woke not only my cat up, but my sister as well. So even though the music was good, I really don't think it's a good idea to have music on your board. Incidents like that can happen. Plus, it's really annoying to visit a board if you're trying to look for something while listening to music and you have to listen to the music on the forum, the music sounds all messed up because it's 2 different songs, etc.

well it isin't allways a bad thing, after thinking for a while, what if your is "country club" or "heavy metal fourms"then the members proballly woulden't mind if country or metal in their respective was playing That's true, but that's usually with a music board With other forums that focus on the interest of other things than music I myself don't think that's a good idea because some members might not have the same taste But yeah, I suppose if you had some kind of poll to get member's opinions or had a music board that'd be okay. 0.o Oh yeah, I also agree with the person above. It can just get kind of annoying, especially if you don't have the option to stop it.

I definataly think we should have music on boards...it makes it mor intresting But also causes many problems, as members have pointed out in this thread. Please be sure to read the rules before posting again. Here's a small snippet of them: - Your posts should be at least 4 sentences long. Anything less shows that not enough thought was taken in the post, and is most likely not productive towards the conversation.

I have read through the responses and I do not think music should be automatically played when you visit a forum. It is extremely annoying. However, If you give a drop down box that allows the members to chose what they would like to listen to...it would be nice.
As for the copyright violation. I always thought it was only a violation if you were downloading the music without paying for it. Not necessarly just listening to it.
From my experience thus far, I have alot of members who would like that option.

The reason it's illegal to stream copyrighted music on a forum or website is because it openly gives access to anyone who wishes to download it. Even though ones purpose may not be to allow others to download it, it is still distributing it to the masses for free download.

From my experience thus far, I have alot of members who would like that option. Just one thing I have to clarify with your reply mate, that is about the copyright query: Yes, correct. It CAN be a violation if music is downloaded for free and used as if it's there's. That almost reminds me of piracy. A very serious crime which most states would frown upon (that is if there was a buisness selling mp3s/MIDIs you just downloaded off of a site a second ago without a written contract). It's alright to listen to a sample, but downloading the FULL song off of a website that is mis-leading you to believe that it's free of charge, is propostorous. EDIT: I mean, it's alright if you download a song for your OWN personal use, but using it on a site as if it were your own, would be painfully stupid. Unless of course you say that you had permission to use it. That might be alright though

It's illegal here in the United States though. No doubt that's true mate, considering proboards is also aligned with California Law. If I may ask this (and the admins can also have a crack at this question too), how many proboards forums on average are taken off becuase of copyrighted content?

I personally do not know although I've seen a few in my time here, and have no access to such data. Craig or Martyn would be the ones to ask.

Yes I belive there should be music on the board. But it should come with a play, pause, and stop button. If they press the stop buttion then they should not hear music on any of the webpages untill they decide to press play again.
