Yes I belive there should be music on the board. But it should come with a play, pause, and stop button. If they press the stop buttion then they should not hear music on any of the webpages untill they decide to press play again. True but the only problem I see with that is, the bufferring (referring to the loading sequence of the music - at least when on a dial-up modem), as they seem to load ultra-slow and if that happens, the sounds would indicate severe distortion and (in some cases) speaker problems. This pretty much reflects on the negative I mentioned in my positives/negatives table... however, if the song being played was hosted on a more *reliable* host (i.e. NOT ripway, but perhaps filefront or something), then it may not be so much of an issue for dial-up users. As long as the implemented music player, has a stop/pause and a play button. That's all it really needs imo

I'm both ways on it, but I'm more towards not liking music on websites. Usually I come across sites that blare music, intentional or not. It's loud, it takes awhile to load, and it takes a while to find how to turn it off. I like browsing without music, and I do think it's a bit more annoying than it is useful. It affects slower connections as well, which is why when I used to use dialup, I never put music on any of my sites. Even when running at its fastest, it loaded very slow. In general, I think no music is beter than having music. Granted, it does give a good experience to some users, but to me, it's just annoying. After reading this topic I sort of agree that music would be annoying. But if you didn't want to hear it, couldn't you turn the sound off?

After reading this topic I sort of agree that music would be annoying. But if you didn't want to hear it, couldn't you turn the sound off? What if the person is already listening to their music on thier computer? You know I really hate sites with their own music on it. I'm one of those people who's already listening to music on their computer so when the site loads and starts playing the music clashes with mine and all you hear is noise so I have to mute my computer til I can find the site's off switch And honestly everyone has different tastes so you could possibly turn someone away with the music for more reasons than just clashing music. What if they judged the site based on the music because it was A) irritating B) not what they liked C) loud or obnoxious D) all of the above its hard to please everyone so its just better not having music

Something for everyone: a push-button-to-start-music code. That way members can CHOOSE wether or not they want to hear music! this way you can have multiple songs for them to choose from! I myself do not use music on any of my forums, but that would be a good way, wouldn't it?

I haven't used music on my forum for two reasons:
I'm always aware it takes up bandwidth & can sometimes kill the speed of your forum
Plus I'm always afraid I'm going to (even though I would host my own of course) get told off by someone for copyright or using someone else's original music!

Well Myke, i agree with not using music on Proboards because it'd involve a lot of copyright and it'd be a pain in the neck for dial up users since it'd take a lot of bandwidth. Also Members wouldn't find a point for it since they could have the music on either: Windows Media Player, Itunes or Linux Player. Also there would be lots of music copyed from other sites which don't allow their music to be used by other people. I don't see a point in using music for my proboard really because members would find it annoying if music kept coming on and they don't like it. They would just leave the forum until they hear that the music has been removed.
Does anyone see my point here?

I don't mind music on some webpages of a website, as once you've read the page you're done. But on a forum, you visit different threads, diferent boards, etc. so the music just gets started over and over and over again.

yeah, they'll leave the forum if they don't like the music and if the admin doesn't like the music removed.
Also I use Windows Media Player and if I had the same music as that on the forum, I'd find it annoying with the same music combinding together. I'd see no point in joining the forum
