suspect a member trying suicide. help!

please. i don't know who to turn to, we got a strange post from a "guest" saying she's dead asking not to call her parents. i believe this "guest" is her calling for help. but we have no real name, no home address and since she's the admin (yes...) i can't even call her isp as i can't see her ip address... i'm only a moderator there! terribly worried for her. can you help?

sounds more like a prank, why would the admin post as a guest, let the admin deal with it if that's the case.

there is not much that can be done.

problem is she is the admin (a kid, not responsible, but she formed this board so...), the message went like that (referring to previous posts by the other made up guest):

I guess because of my brothers very stupid childish pranks, you just delete his posts without reading them now.
I can assure you the Jay was not joking around earlier when he posted about the sad, unfortunate death of Katrina. I, too am deeply upset by this.
I'm sure you will all miss her. I do ask though that you don't IM her MSN account, as it signs her in automatically when she signs on to the Internet, I very much doubt her parents will want to be bombarded by messages from people wanting to chat to her.
I am also nut sure about what will happen to this board, but right now I don't really want to think about that.

anyway, thought i could get help from you to locate her details to call for emergancy services. i don't even know the numbers in the uk... (she's from the uk, i'm not)

I do ask though that you don't IM her MSN account,

send an IM, then you'll know for sure, i still think someone is messing about, and doesn't want them to know.

i had a guy on the plaza that way.
he really wanted to do it and tried a few times.
i guess logging into orc world helped him.
I never fund out what hapepned....

i thought, though, that your system has a full documentation of ip addresses of all those who post- even the deleted posts, and then i would be able to locate her through her isp and "be a hero..."

just academically, if she does disappear, of any reason, is there a process of promoting a moderator to an admin position or will the board have to be functioning without one? we used to be members of another board that was closed during your servers upgrade because its admin quit and we didn't know about it.so we couldn't restore it as the proboard support asked us for a password that of course we couldn't have.... i hope we won't have to go through this again as all other members are adults who like the forum and kids play is really not our style!!!

without the original password used when creating the board, admin cannot be transferred to someone else, sorry

ok so if this is not a prank... is it not possible for Proboards to get here ip. I think you are in good reason if all this true. Then you can get in contact with the ISP and tell them to take action in whatever way they can

You can do that by tracing the IP here at this site. Again proboards can't be responsible for things like that. All they can do is bann or delete a user.

The admin of the board itself can by viewing the ip on the post. Again it's not Proboard's responsibility to track down prank posts. Each forum is run by its own admin it's THAT's admin responsibility to take care of that board. Each IP is listed in the bottom right hand corner of each post.

Unfortunately there is nothing anyone here can do. Proboards does not have the ability to find a person's address. That site link I gave you is a start. The only other thing you can do is post a message on the board to see if anyone there knows the admin on a personal basis and can contact them. Otherwise it is up to the board to find the problem. Sorry but that's all I can offer.
