Payed adds degrading my forums

A few of the members offline have told me of their concerns about the adds advertising on the christian forums.

Your adds are degrading the whole point to what our forums stand for! We are a Christian forum wanting to see growth. We get a lot of guests but for some reason they don't sign up to our christian forums. We have the belief because it has adds such as:

"THE DARK HISTORY OF THE CHURCH- 7 Great Myths of Organised Religion... The Critical Fault Line that Seperates Genuine Spirituallity from Empty Religious Dogma"

and

"psychics.Kasamba.com
HEALINGS READING LIVE"

with many other adds that seem to denounce the meaning of coming and joining our forums.

Is it possible that administrators can choose which adds they can displayed around the site? And if not, ask permission from the proboards staff, not to have certain adds on their boards?

I'm not sure if that's amusing or not. On a serious note, i think these adds are caused by what googlebot decides your site is about...

This should be accurate:
People with their own domain can purchase adds from sites such as google. When put on their site, they are payed a certain amount each time someone clicks on the adds. Certain sites that offer adds to purchase, such as google, make their adds have something to do with your site by picking up keywords. So, since your particular proboard is Christian oriented, the adds should have things to do with churches, though it won't necessarily be in a possitive way. Unfortunately, this can't be altered to my knowledge.

To add onto this, you could have the google ad removed from your board by purchasing ad free. The ad's will be gone at the top of you page. If you want to know more about this ad free look at the bottom of your board and click on "Click Here To Make This Board Ad-Free " for more info.

You might try adding meta tags and try to somewhat redirect what the bot picks up. It won't be 100% effective, but you could reduce what adds are on your site. Be careful how you do that, as you can get into trouble. Make sure the tags actually do have something to do with your site for one thing.

That's not going to help, Google takes the text from each page and generates ads based on that. So the only way to change your ads, is to change the text on your page. Let's say you have a role playing site, then your main page will have ads based off the text they find which will be role playing based. Now let's say you have a thread that describes a character and it talks about cargo pants (this actually happened to me) it will give you ads based off of the text which is cargo pants. So the best way to alter your ads would be to change your content. Since that's very difficult to do since your board has a theme, you may just want to pay for ad free. If you can't, then you're stuck with that. You can't pick your ads, and the system is automated so Proboards staff can't pick your ads for you either. Sorry.

I keep getting ads on the front page for "gay cruises". I have nothing on my site that mentions anything to do with either of those subjects. It is quite unappropriate for my site as well.

with adsense in google, you CAN restrict websites you do not want displayed on your site.
You would have to collect those & submit them to proboards (presumed account holder of said adsense account). Whether they'd do that or not, I don't know.
It really doesn't take but a few clicks, copy+paste & voila, done.

Is it possible for the producers of the database to give admins of forums power to choose what adds can go on their sites?

And yes, while I find the adds amusing for bagging out the Christian forums, others aren't happy about it. They believe it is stifling the forum growth.

Its impossible to give forum owners control, its a single ad sence account which takes up all of proboards, any change to one forum will affect every one
