Hi, I have a question, I have recently moved my forum, and i would like to know if putting a redirect code in my headers of my old forums, redirecting users to my new forum is a tos violation. The reason i am considering this is because some of my members get confused and dont remember the new url (even though it is actually a text link on the main page itself.. the forum is in maintenence mode and even though my regular members see that it is in maintenence mode and have no choice, my staff can still access the old forum.. the reason i havent demoted the staff is because i want them to be able to access and back-up their old posts..

I speculate that redirecting to your new forum would be completely acceptable. But if you want to make sure, wait and a Proboards Administrator will be able to tell you so.

No problem, sorry I am unable to provide additional information though. And like I said, I do anticipate that redirecting would be completely acceptable (as long as the site you're redirecting to complies with the Proboards ToS)

If it can be done, here' a quick code I made just for you:
<script language="javascript"> alert('The forum has moved\! Click okay to be taken to the new board.'); window.location="NEW BOARD URL"; </script>

I dont think redirecting from a ProBoards forum is allowed, because the ads on that page never get seen.

ok now im confused again.. i dont think that the ads will get seen anymore anyway because my members dont go there anymore.. so now im confused.. i dont want to delete my forum.. i'll have it to fall back on.. however, i want my members to go to the new forum, and not the old one.. i want to put the redirect code into my headers so that my members will be taken to the new forum, however, i dont want my forum to get deleted because of it.

This violates the TOS, because the ads get seen, but they cannot be clicked on.

Just verify, redirect codes are indeed against the TOS, however you can have a confirm message that asks whether the user wants to be redirected. That way the can choose to cancel and can still click the ads.
<script type="text/javascript"> <!--
var yourMessage = "We have moved. Would you like to be redirected to our new location?"; var newLocation = "URL OF NEW BOARD";
if(!document.cookie.match(/dontask=1/) && confirm(yourMes)){ location = newLocation; }else{ document.cookie = "dontask=1;"; }
// --> </script>
In the Global Header.

You can however add a redirect to the Headers of your boards that send you to the new board:
<script> location.href='new url'; </script>
That way the main page of the old board will load and if they ignore anything about going to the new board and try to post, they get sent to the new one

That still loads the ads on the board pages though. It wouldn't be allowed.

Your best bet is to hide all the tables on the page, and have a link to the new place... no one could miss that, and the ad still shows.
