what is banned is explicit content, to my understanding. =] for example, artistic nudity is allowed, but pornography is not. artistic nudity is pg13, and pornography... well, isn't. xD

I wish I could get examples of like.. what kind of writing is allowed and what isn't xD But that would of course break the rules.

unless you expect proboards to give every possible example...? xD i mean, think of all the different kinds of RP boards there are. and then OTHER boards that are not RP. If PB provided something like "example: this is allowed. this is not allowed", then people will say "well that example doesn't apply to my board. add another." and so on, and so on. i mean, i just used an example of artistic nudity vs. pornography. the response? "well, how about examples of writing?" See my point? =]

is it honestly that difficult to fade to black if things go past kissing? or to imply that something bad/illegal happened without RPing it out? =/

The thing about rping for me, is taking on every aspect of life. I'm twenty, my characters are all about the same age, they want and do the same things I do. Some of them get pregnant, some get raped, some are addicted to drugs. Others just plainly have boy/girlfriends and want to get to know every aspect of their relationship. It takes a lot of the reality out of it if there are things that you can't do, that you have to 'fade to black' it feels like you're missing a giant part of what your character is. To someone that doesn't feel the same way, or that hasn't rped at all, it might seem a bit serious because it is all fiction. But it feels like you're writing a book of some kind and then not allowed to travel certain paths with your characters.

Sex, violence, drugs, it's all a part of life and everyone is faced with it at one point or another and to me that's what rping is about, recreating real life in another way. It gives you a chance to be someone else and being limited in that, it makes you miss a big part of what rping is supposed to be.

Of course I completely understand that you want to protect kids that are younger, but I also believe that if a board is password protected and only people above 13 are allowed there, or they only go there when they know that they can handle it, something like that could be allowed. Or maybe through pms, only two people would be able to read those, and no harm would really be done, right?

Violence, sex and drugs are everywhere, that's a fact. But you know, this is just my opinion and it doesn't really matter because it won't change anything x] Just the way that I feel about it.

but how do you know if they're honestly the age they say? =] i can understand what you're talking about, I roleplay too. But, all content needs to be appropriate for thirteen year olds, as they are the youngest denominator allowed by ProBoards. And even if they could handle it, what if their parents say they can't? Then ProBoards is liable for the content you have posted using their service.

you're not going to get flat out examples of what is and isn't allowed. if you think it's appropriate for a thirteen year old to view --say your child, or your brother/sister-- then feel free to post it. If the content is iffy, or if you wouldn't want your kid or sibling seeing it, probably best not to post it.

Everyone's opinion about what a 13 year old can and can not handle is different. It's different in every country, the different ratings prove that. I mean here they can apparently handle the near porn that is shown in Sex and the City but that might not be true in your country. I have a 13 year old niece and she knows a lot more than I knew at her age. Kids are having sex and doing all of that at a much younger age then they did when I was their age.

I guess this is a topic that can be discussed till the end of time.

I suppose. =] But I think that if you are hesitant to put it on your forum, it's probably a safe bet not to have it. Best to err on the side of caution, no? especially if there's a possibility that your hard work can go -poof-. Speaking as an RP forum owner.

Hi,

As Kami indicated, there are just too many variables to be able to give a what is and what isn't. As a rule of thumb, think about films and TV in general. If you would see it in a PG 13 film, then it would normally be deemed acceptable.

For example. Rape, which you mentioned. You would see the topic of rape brought up in a PG 13 film, however, you would not get the graphic details. So you can, say, mention that someone got raped, and even build upto the scene, but what wouldn't be allowed is the graphic discription and playing out to the rape scene itself.

Same for say, drugs. You could say that someone is taking drugs, but what you couldn't do is 'glorify' drugs, or description in the act of taking the drugs.

I, and Artemis, are checking every board posted in the advert board for anything that may violate TOS. If we find something we believe to violate the Terms, we will report it.

We, [Artemis and I] as Support Board Staff, are reviewing the posted forums for any TOS Violations. If we find content that does, We [the Support Board Staff] will be filing a report [to ProBoards, Inc].

That is what that means, as it states.

If Kami sees something that might violate the TOS, then she will report it through the same abuse page anyone else would see. But just because a report is made doesn't mean the forum is going to be instantly removed.
