Alright I'm working on the menu buttons for my forum right now. I have three different versions so far but I dunno which version to use. Version 1Version 2Version 3So which text looks best. Or does anybody else have a idea for the text.

honestly? i'd use a different font entirely. that font isn't exactly easy to read at smaller sizes, and i think that sites with large menu buttons look a little obnoxious. you might want to look at fonts on dafont.com for ideas.
personally, i'd go for fonts that are a little less stylized. imo, the simpler the font, the better (for a menu, at least)

Have to agree with Kami on all points she made. Number 1 and 3 are just way too big and I'm not sure they'd actually all fit in the menu bar unless your site is very wide. They may do for side table title text or something.
On the other hand, I see microscopic menu text all the time and find that actually worse than large text, mainly because you can't read it unless you have perfect vision. Big may be very obnoxious, as Kami said, but at least you know what your clicking on. lol
You want your menu text to be readable, which means a pretty clean style. Version 2 would be a fine size if it were arial, tahoma or verdana, for example.

Well, in my opinion version 2 size is fine. It just needs to be very readable. If there is at least a tiny bit of space between the the letters (like your first example) it is much easier to read and looks nicer too. Version 2 and 3 have no discernible space between the letters.

i agree with what tumbleweed said about readability. i think that the size is subjective to the font, come to think of it. i've used large menu buttons/text size before, but it looked good because the font looked good, and the style of menu i used allowed for it.
i think, before we could continue to give advice, you may consider selecting a new font with our tips in mind, and make a few example buttons again, and check back. =]

Bigger fonts tend to look bulky/tacky, unless it really works with your site. Care to give a link to the forum so we can see the buttons with everything else?

Hmm... I think I actually like the large buttons with your site. Not that font though. I actually think the buttons you had before were more suitable, since they match the banner's font, but that's just my opinion.

The kerning you're using is not really working, the stretched out look is rarely a good one. Also you dont HAVE the stroke the border. All you really need I feel is a nice font in a nice colour and that would suffice. www.dafont.com/Find something better than papyrus.
