Hi, I have a member getting the Angry Bear message when she tries to post a message. She's able to use the quick reply box, but not the normal bigger box.
Also last night GMT, proboards went off line to an admin in Canada. Was that just a blip or was there a general problem then?

Can you get the browser and browser version that the member is using?
I am not aware of any specific issues last night, but ProBoards staff may be abe to provide more information.

I can't help you any further, but there are some common issues regarding angry bears when posting, which may be linked to the user's browser. A ProBoards staff member will be online Monday and able to help you further.

OK thanks for your help anyway.
Maybe proboards needs to look into this more before going live with a new updated board, as we've had one or two members complaining in the last few months that they can't post because of this 'bear' message and it will drive our regulars away.

I believe the issue is a problem with the V4.5 (current) software. Therefore V5 will probably not have the same sort of issues.

It's actually an issue with very specific installations of Internet Explorer that we have yet to figure out the cause for. I say "very specific" because this issue only affects Internet Explorer users, however it does not affect everyone that uses Internet Explorer; we're not able to re-create the issue here at the office using IE, for example. Because of this, we have to find a common link between those that are experiencing this problem. If you could, can you ask the member that's experiencing the issues the following questions please?: How often does the issue occur? Is it every time you attempt to post without fail (when using the regular posting page, not quick reply)? Or do you only notice it happen during certain times of day? If you use quick reply, are you able to reply normally to threads without issue? If you use a different web browser, such as Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome, are you able to make posts without issue? What's the version number of IE9 that you are you using? (this can be found by clicking the gear icon in the top-right hand corner, then click "About Internet Explorer". The version number will be displayed like: Version: 9.0.8112.16421) What security programs do you have installed? (AVG, McAfee, Norton, etc.) Where are you geographically located (City / State if within the USA, Country if outside the USA) What is the name of your internet service provider?
If you could get those, it would be of great help

Thanks for checking back. While they noted that they do not use firefox or chrome, can they install one of the two browsers just to test with to see if the same error occurs for them with either of those browsers installed? Another thing they could try too, which was brought up by someone with a similar issue, was able to un-install IE9 to revert to IE8 and noted that they were able to post fine with IE8. Would the member from your forum be willing to do the same test to see if they are able to post fine while using IE8? The process to do this can be found here under the heading "To uninstall Internet Explorer"

Hi Ricky,
After passing on your message on suggestions to do, the person has decided against it, as her computor is working fine and she doesn't want to mess everything up, uninstalling and installing stuff, so we'll wait and see how this angry bear progresses.
Will it disappear when the new version of proboards is given to everyone.

Will it disappear when the new version of proboards is given to everyone. I don't think v5 would make a difference, since it seems to be an issue that's browser / connection related, rather than with the software itself. But that's just going off of what we know from those that experience the issue. Edit to add though, our system admins let me know that a change was made on our end that might help the issue. Can you have the member that was experiencing the issue try again with IE and see if it's been corrected for them?
