Although, I'm curious I am a bit worried as well as to hearing the outcome of this answer as well as what the future for proboards may be with this. Nevertheless here it goes:
Recently I heard, and I'm also sure it's stated somewhere here, that when v5 is released officially, it'll make posting templates obsolete and otherwise useless on proboards. Is this true? If so why? Personally, I don't see how it's a problem to use posting templates using the style tag coding developed by iPokemon. It's confusing to be completely honest.
My other question is: will this affect site skins as well? I'm not sure if it will or not, so I'm asking to see if this will make skins that are heavily coded obsolete as well.
As apart of an animanga role play community, there are a ton of sites that use the the coding to make their sites look gorgeous and those same members make their posts look equally as lovely because of the templates that we can currently make. So why the change (if true of course)?
Unfortunately, I've already heard from several sites that they'll be moving their forums. I really don't want to do that with my forum, but I can see why people are deciding on this move.

It sounds as though descriptions you have mentioned are just missing context.
Most current forms of coding and templates will be rendered obsolete, that is true, but it is because there will be much more simple alternatives to reach the same desired layout.
Why have a template which requires a ton of JavaScript and HTML when it can be done with just the HTML? It not only makes it easier to create the layout to begin with, it also means the page loads quicker for the users viewing the forum.

So in essence, it's a simple change of coding, but not one that will completely harm forums altogether? I did receive this from word of mouth, but it seems to be causing a bit of a stir in the community I am in. The coding will just be changed, but it won't affect people wanting to make unique posting templates?

It will affect them, but only because the process will be easier and more accessible to those who are not so coding inclined
Everything possible now will still be possible, as well as added options such as custom pages where you can add entirely new custom sections

I'm sorry, I'm getting really confused. Lol. So it's going to affect them (bad), but the coding, which is difficult for users who are not coding savvy, will still be possible for members to make custom templates, skins, etc.?

I get what you mean and I'm interested to know as well. I'm hardly tech savvy myself so someone with less knowledge than myself could be unable to have the template they want.

I know a small amount of coding, at least the coding in which makes the templates that I, as well as others in the community use. It's just a very nice addition to have and to keep. But I know this type of coding enough to use it well myself so to me, this change might not sit well with me. Of course, I won't know for sure until it officially released, but it's something that was concerning me.

Linked here from the original poster and I have a question myself. If the v5 system would use doHTML, is there still ways that the current systems would still be supported? I'm an extensive user of enhanced UBBC table tags, classy/newclass tags, etc, and I know that they'd be considered "obsolete," but I'd still like them up for a while so I can convert all my old stuff to the new.

That doesn't particularly answer my question, though. I guess I'm wondering that with v5, will current codes made on v4 and earlier will cease working?

Not sure. Staff will have to answer. I was just pointing out that the beta zone would be where you would see what old code would work and what wouldn't.

Eh.. If what I hear is true and if the coding that the we like to use stops working and is otherwise obsolete (and cannot be replicated in anyway to make the coding that we like/want to use), it an unfortunate fact that many if not all of the community of proboard users I know of will be moving from proboards elsewhere. :/ Which in all actuality sucks since I personally don't want a forum move.

The new system is actually much better. You can easily do without having to use a ton of code to do it. And if you can't there are always more knowledgable people that on support that could easily help you.
