Please add me to the list of people extremely unhappy about the loss of a global admin's most valuable tools: access to email addresses and, more importantly, IP addresses, over a law that might be approved. You have cut us off at the knees in regards to the tools we utilize to fight spammers and trolls, as individual owners.
Time and time again we have seen laws to limit myriad web issues introduced, then either fail or be tabled. If such a law were indeed introduced, and then, against the odds passed, would there not be an extended time allowed for everyone in the country to comply with it? Chances are, you'd get at least a year to do so.
It's hard for me to see this as anything other than a serious downgrade in service for forum owners, and it certainly makes owning a ProBoards forum much less attractive.
The rest of V5 I like; it's a wonderful improvement for the better.
This aspect, however, is a serious setback

You still have all the same tools and functionality as before, it's just that the actual personal details themselves are hidden. You can still search for duplicate accounts by email and IP. You can email specific members. StopForumSpam has been integrated into V5 itself (so much so that the staff won't reveal how exactly to ensure maximum effectiveness).

Yes, I have. I read each page here before posting and still don't agree.

I have followed this thread with interest, as one who often stops spammers from joining my forum.
I have to accept that Proboards are doing what they feel to be right.
Having said that! I do totally disagree with these new measures, in privacy.
In the real world. I would rightly want to know who is knocking at my door, and have every right to ask who they are, and ask for proof of identity.
In the real world. If I join a local club, Sports, arts etc. I would expect to be asked who I am and my address and email.
So why on earth would I not feel that I have the right to know, who I am allowing to join my forum ?
What happens if in get a very nasty member, that requires me to contact the police ?
What info can we pass on ? We have no real info!
It will be interesting to see how many of us here, will get more spammers as a result to this new practice.

But how would you see if they're a spambot on stopforumspam if you can't view they're I.P?

Further more to my last post!
How would any one report a spammer ?
We cant report their email address, as we can no longer see it !
We cant give the full IP, as we cant see that !

If there is anything so bad that you have to report to the police, Proboards will likely provide that information to them Obviously Proboards will not disclose how things work behind the scenes, but they will have measures in place for you to report bad cases of spam, but as has been said by admins, they have already reduced the amount of spam to your forums
To anyone asking questions, most of the answers have been posted by the admins in this thread, with links to articles, this is about the law changing, not proboards, all websites will have to adapt to the changes if everything goes through, proboards are taking steps to be on yop of things.
I think this thread has gone on long enough, nothing is going to change at this time, the best advice is to go with the flow, wait till full conversion to V5, and see how everything works in controlling the spam and trolls. Also have a read through this thread for the Admins comments (people with red names)
Locking as this seems to just go round in circles
