This is the thread with one of my staff member's (I am the first post which works perfectly, and the second post is the one that bugs).

edit: after logging out as a guest, the plugin no longer appears to work. The first post changes my username but not the avatar or signature, whilst the second post doesn't change at all.

I dont. As was said before its not a plugin thing, its a proboards thing. Ryan Roos might have more details as to what causes it and if there is a cure.

The only thing is that it won't let me add the members, like an issue that Tohsaka Rin had. I've tried editing the profiles, logging in, logging out, ect., but it still won't let me see any of the member names, displayname or username. Is there a way we could just type in the usernames by hand somehow?

that part is still beyond my control. will it find them if you use their display name instead? I had a couple accounts on my test board that wouldnt show up either. I changed their display name and I could find them with that. when I changed it back, it could still find them, but it never found them by username. Its a bug in the forum search part.

I need to use the forum search widget in the plugin, because I need it to return user-ids. Im hoping they can get the widget fixed otherwise I have to rewrite a bunch of lines to look for usernames instead of ids.

They just added in a patch to make the last post cell on the main page have the post-id as well, so I can have it put the Alter name as the author there as well in the next version.

I recommend putting a post in the bug board about how the forum search isnt finding accounts and you can even link back to this post for reference

Na, I tried to use both the account name and display name and it doesn't work for either.

Once I make the thread in the bug report area I will link it here for anyone else having the issue so that they know where it is being forwarded to. I will get to it as soon as I finish breakfast.

Okay, they fixed the search feature so I will be back testing this! So far it works, aside from it refusing to allow spaces in display names.

We found a pretty bad bug with it right now. When clicking the "Alters" tab in "Profile" (for any member which has an alter set up) it takes us to the admin profile...which is NOT COOL. Any user is being forwarded to the admin profile by default....you really need to fix that or else it is a major way to compromise the account.

Checking on this more, I had downloaded the new version. I will try swapping it again.I believe the data from the first plugin did not fully delete itself when the new one was loaded. It took a few times for it to clear out but it appears to be working now.

Was there anything else we should be looking for? It looks like the search function fix solved the issue for all users to be visible now when adding alias' with them. I checked all the members we had, and user groups, and so far there have been no other additional problems aside from the fact that you can have no spaces in usernames and personal text. What sort of format is suppose to be allowed for the dates? Despite the tooltip saying you cannot have "illegal characters" in the area for "locations" it allows spaces...

Okay, also, the following might be a problem if the plugin is constantly updated in the future:

When you have to update the plugin, the person whom has made any posts with an alias previously to the plugin being updated will have /all/ their posts reset to their default account name (rather than their alias.)

The top post was originally the same "alias" as the second post, but when removing the alias script and re-adding/applying it the post will default back to the users original information and not update along with the plugin.

So if there are a lot of updates to the plugin, everyone's threads will constantly be changed back to their originals (defeating the reason for the plugin in the first place.)

I am unsure if there is a way to save it as if the person is a 'guest' so that the basic information is left behind and then updates on it's own (similar to if "user1" registers then leaves the forum, then comes back, signing up with "user1" again they sort of "reclaim" all of their previous posts and all their information updates.

Was the "alias" tab in "profile" now suppose to just display the avatar image and name in a hyperlink? The hyperlink itself only cycles back to the default user's profile page. The user is unable to thus edit their own alias. I had a question about whether they were suppose to be allowed to update it or if the admins have to do that on their own.

Was this going to be able to cooperate with the "replace display name with image" code in the future?

When checking how the mini-profile is displayed I understand that it does not yet hook into the current template that a site may be using; however, I was using it to see how the money system and karma system behave with the alias one. I noticed that at times, if you give one or the other karma, they show up as separate numbers. At least till you refresh, then the karma you gave vanishes on both of the mini-profiles, then if you refresh again it shows up. This happens very often and the karma loves to disappear and reappear. Unsure if I should have shorty look at how this is saved, or if we are going to consider this an unavoidable/unfixable bug.

The money system allows both the parent account and alias to share the same amount of money, thus it reflects the parent accounts amount in the alias mini-profile. I do not expect this to change, I really don't mind (nor care) if they are sharing the same data. After all, they sort of are the same account. Others may question "why cannot they have separate amounts" but it doesn't bother me since it is a fake account. This plugin really is only suppose to allow the user to be able to post with another display name in order to stop people from spamming accounts.

alias data is saved in a key, so if key data gets erased, its all gone. There is no way I can recover lost key data. and the point of key data was to keep from having to store it IN the post.

the only way to have speration of things like post count and money that wasnt based on a percentage was to use a second key, in fact a super-user key to store everything solo. Im trying to avoid multiple keys, and there is no way Im going to waste space in a super user key by storing the post id of every post ever made with each character. you only get 4K of space there.

I havent been able to reproduce the rmeoval of spaces yet, but Im still looking.

the alias tab in the profile should display the avatar and name of each alter for hoever's profile you are looking at. if you have setup a bio link for the alter, the name links back to that bio post like it does at the top of MP.

I dont have everything worked out for the MP customize thing yet. and Im currently in the middle of tournament brackets plugin before I can get back to coding up such a major overhaul.

the alter profile is supposed to completely replace everything in the MP from the top down. if other codes run after, because they were waiting for something to finish loading like an image, then they might add the karma/money stuff after the mp is replaced. I cant do a whole lot about that. if the karma plugin adds something to the MP upon click and after the alter is loaded, then it definately wont be there on refresh. if the money plugin runs before the later plugin, then money will be erased with everything else.

this plugin also still suffers from the pagination problem until I get a function I can latch on to for pagination. Peter had a way to force it, but it was over my head. if you refresh the page the alters appear.

if the "replace display name with image" code looks for a profile page formatted link, then it wont see the alter's display name because its not formatted like that. if alter runs after, it will just convert the image back to the Alter name.


if the plugin data was erased when you updated to the newer version, that might be a bug that has to be reported. it should keep the key data the same as long as the name of the key doesnt change.

Yeah, take your time. For now the plugin itself is pretty well set up for what it is suppose to do. In my opinion I would only tweak it so that it is able to adjust to the current MP format set up by the template and allow spaces for names.

We were messing around with it earlier to see what does, and does not, work in it with the MP and we noticed that issue with the Karma not wanting to save whatsoever. That is likely something that has to be adjusted for the karma plugin itself and not this plugin here. Aka, the way Karma is saved in it's own plugin that is getting overwritten upon refresh.

As far as money, I really do not mind nor care if the alias has the same amount as the parent account. It is not like the money is duplicated or displayed incorrectly. We tested deposits and transfers to see if we could glitch the system and go "hey, alias' end up breaking the bank system" like it would with the karma one but it doesn't. Only the Karma was the one that refuse to save properly (and it always defaulted to zero) while the money one was set sound (as it uses a super-key.)

The questions about how the profile itself is displayed was because many users got the idea that they could go in and alter the alias information themselves; rather than staff. So they had no idea why it kept linking themselves back to their parent accounts. I will just tell them about this. There should not be any major problem with a staff member updating the alias information so long as people don't want to spam a bazillion avatars every few days. THAT would be grating.

Yes, the data had erased when updating versions. Others may wish to look into this or test it out. Deleting the plugin should not delete the data but somehow it was clearing everything out.

Update: Using the "Text to Image" code allows you to replace the alias name with an image.
