Our forum is located here: divineinterventionws.proboards.com/index.cgi#generalI've been paying for it for several years, but if this v.5 upgrade doesn't work any better than it has so far, I'm moving on. OK, here's your info... 1) The URL to the page you are on when the bug occurred: divineinterventionws.freemessageboards.com/ Every single Reply page. Not one, or two, all of them... 2) What happened, in detail: Try posting a news article, go ahead...I dare 'ya. That's what we do at our Forum now, so I'll even give you a source so you can try: www.foxnews.com/world/2012/11/30/new-flagpoles-in-iran-spark-rumors-clandestine-satellite-jamming-technology/Copy as much or as little of the article as you want, then paste it into a Reply window. It becomes a BLOCK of uneditable text! You can't do anything with it. Go ahead...an good luck. 3) What do you think should have happened instead? Since you're touting this new v.5 as "What You See Is What You Get" it should paste as I copied it, then allow me to edit the details. I have to paste it into Notepad then copy/paste it into v.5, but then all the sentences run together. 4) Can you reproduce this on every pageview? Every, single one. You can even reproduce it here on your v.5 Test Forum if you copy/paste from the link I gave above. 5) What browser, version, and operating system are you using? Windows XP SP3, IE 8 6) Please attach a screen shot (JPG or PNG -- not GIF or BMP) if it is relevant It's attached. I also circles at all four corners the brackets which show, after the past is made it appears as a 'graphical box', not editible text. Sorry to be so harsh. I'm really put out at this 'upgrade' after so many years of great service. Keith, Admin Divine Intervention Forum Attachments:

First things first; The current v5 Beta Zone board you're using is running a pre-release version of PBv5. The software itself is still yet to be finished, which is why a small number of features aren't yet fully operational, and there are still a few bugs left unresolved. As such, it should be considered a work in progress, and not taken at face value.
Now, onto the problem. I've had a go at copying the text (and separately, the image and text - despite the inherent possibility of copyright infringement/hotlinking there), and have been able to edit the text in both the Visual and BBCode views. Is there any chance you could try in an alternative browser, like Chrome, Firefox or Opera? If copy/pasting does indeed cause problems, it would help the staff see if this is a genuine problem, and if it's limited only to one particular browser.
Lastly, I'm a little confused about point #6; is there any chance you could elaborate a little?

...I'm a little confused about point #6; is there any chance you could elaborate a little? Thanks, Paul. In the screenshot you'll see four small circles in orange that I've used to highlite at each corner of what I call a 'graphic block', which actually runs outside the borders of the Reply area. Please keep in mind it makes no difference if this is text, graphic or a combination of both. When I copy/paste something from another site into the Reply area, it appears as a block with the text or graphic inside it. When trying to select something inside the block to edit, it selects the entire block...treating it like it was a graphic, as opposed to individual elements such as text or a graphic. Hope this helps.

Can i ask you to try something ? Start a post, but when in the reply area click on the BBcode tab ar the bottom and paste the content there, then switch to visual Only thing is that you will have to separately embed images or video if the source site allows in their terms of use
There is an option in your profile to set bbcode as default, but you then have the option to preview in visual
Also note that copying whole blocks from another site is often against their terms of use, what we do here is copy a snippet of the article and link to the rest.

Thanks Patick, I'll try that...
And yes, we're careful with our copy/pasting. We copy article headlines and a few lines of text from the originator's site, then a photo if available. We then link back to the source so members can go read the entire article from the source if they wish. I guess we're posting what you call a 'snippet'.

That's a little better, Patrick, but not much. I am able to post copied material into the Reply box as editible text when entering it as BBcode first, but it's invisible within the Reply box till I switch it back to Visual.
Plus, if you want to add more copied text to what's already in the box, you have to switch back to BBcode or else the original problem of a 'boxed graphic' resurfaces. But when you do switch back to BBcode entry to add addtional copied material, the original pasted text disappears again until Visual is reselected.
Hope you got all that.

Think of the bbcode tab as the original reply box we have currently, and the visual as a preview but nothing should disappear, could you run the test and attach screenshots ? and describe what you do exactly

Keith, Admin Divine Intervention Forum If you are copying from a website and then pasting it into the WYSIWYG editor, your browser will copy the exact HTML from that website and try to put it in. If you want to copy from a website into a the WYSIWYG, I suggest you paste it into the BBCode tab. You can even set your default posting mode to BBCode in your profile settings (Profile > Edit Profile > Settings).

You can even set your default posting mode to BBCode in your profile settings (Profile > Edit Profile > Settings). Yes, I've been doing that, and thanks for the path to the Settings, Patrick...I needed that... Think of the bbcode tab as the original reply box we have currently, and the visual as a preview... You have no idea how that's helped, thanks... ...but nothing should disappear, could you run the test and attach screenshots ? and describe what you do exactly OK, guys, here it is: I copied three paragraphs from this link: www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/nov/27/north-korea-missile-test-satelliteI selected BBcode first, then pasted the text into the Reply area. In the screen capture you see I had to highlite the text or else it would have been black...just like the background color of the Reply box. By the way, I've made this entire post using the BBcode tab. It's really helped knowing that and I'm sure it will all our members as well. Attachments:

Keifer,
First, I think it's important to note that copying articles from third party websites is not permitted. You can copy a sentence or two, and then link to the article. Otherwise you could be violating copyright.
To customize the color of the textarea to not be black on black, go to Admin > Themes > Colors & Styles. Then select Forms > Text Areas > choose your colors here for Background Color and Text.

That done absoluteoy nothing. I changed both the background and border colors to white to no affect. Very frustrating. Suggestions?

Have you changed the Text color?
Go to the exact section I mentioned, then click the "text" option then change the text color.
