....I'm so lost now..

I decided to make a backup of my site with the v5 setup and now I am completely lost. ^@,@^

Obviously most the stuff I have used on my currently-running forum are all scripts that no longer will work with the new system. I am afraid that I will pretty much loose all my time and work now, which is what I feared, as everything is far too different for me to just.... copy everything over.

I am not a coder, I am a graphic artist and what little I was capable of doing for my site was put into the V4 version of my forum.

Hopefully there are people out there that have a lot of patience to help me on this, because I have a lot of members that are now fearing that we cannot do anything on our site and will loose everything when we are /forced/ to convert to v5.I will see what I can do. I had posted over on a few other forums since I was asked to take the inquiries over there.

For now... I will have to compile a list of what scripts do not work, and what ones I did find that I cannot get to work right.

Unless you've posted with a different account, it doesn't appear that you've actually made any posts asking for help on the betazone boards here. It shouldn't be too surprising that you can't find everything in the indexes yet because people have only been making codes for a month or so.

If you outline what the specific problems you're having are, then we can help you to fix them.

Instead of making a list of them, just go ahead and request a plugin for them in the plugin request board.

I use a lot of scripts, so the request area for them would be... very large.

Right now I feel that I should compile a list so that I have it on hand, and others can see it, before I go about actually creating an enormous thread of umpteen scripts.

Create one post for each code. Maybe do a few at a time. And once those are complete, post a few more. Just a thought.

For the plugins you're having problems with, post in their original threads and the author of the plugin can help (and update the plugin if need be).

It's also worth pointing out that you might not even need a plugin for everything. Some things might be built-in features now and other things could be more effectively done as a Template Modification.

I am aware, which is why I am cutting out some of them that I think are no longer needed; aka "remove forum jump", "remove "Hey x" from welcome table, stuff like that which is internal stuff. If somehow I need them I can list them later.

URL Hover Text - Changes colour of link to fade when rolled-over: You should be able to add the CSS straight to the stylesheet, although check you've got all the appropriate browser prefixes as well as the standard, no-prefix one for the transistions.
Welcome-table menu spacing: You could do this with a combination of template mods/CSS, although it'd be a case of someone making it again for you most likely.
Move Banner Below Ads: Use this template mod.
Colour Smear v1.5: This is being worked on, I believe. I'm not sure when it'll be completed.
Glide PM Bar: Another combination of template mods/CSS. Make a request in the Template Modification board for this.
Ad Menu Buttons: Now a built in feature: Admin > Settings > Forum Settings > Navigation. You might otherwise want to use the Classic ProBoards Menu plugin.

No Avatar Image: This is default behaviour now, just need to set at least one default avatar: Admin > Members > Forum Avatars
Sub-Sub Boards: Not needed now, you can have unlimited sub-sub[-sub]-boards now.
Spoiler UBBC Tags: Built in feature: [spoiler]Aerith dies[/spoiler] produces:

Colour Picker: Built in to the posting form now:

Thanks, I am still looking into a lot of them as well.

I know that many of the scripts I have been using are actually abandoned by their authors (as they have not answered back or updated anything since '08. Hence the problem there.

It is very likely that I am going to have to have someone work with the css coding; as that is something I cannot do. I can only tinker around with something already made - my job purely is graphics and so many times I wind up merely ripping my hair out in frustration when forcing myself to try and find code/modify code.

Looking into more things tonight...hopefully the last of the list is compiled tomorrow and I can find all the links I need to each thread in which the original scrips were posted in. That way I can find which of them are all abandoned and which are not/authors are willing to help.

...this is such a mess; I just want it done before I am forced to deal with a v5 conversion.

....the item shop is the worst part....I don't know how I am going to deal with that since it is a /large/ portion of what makes the members enthused about coming to the site every day. They get rewards and that makes them post more; and the more they stay the more I decide to give proboards money each month.

The affiliates table is on my list of things to write a template for (it won't need a plugin). When I've got a bit of free time later on, I'll have a go at knocking one up, and also recreating that style of User Legend for you. If I get them done tonight, which shouldn't be a problem, I'll reply here again and send you a link via PM, too. =]

That sounds great, did you want my code for the affiliate's table? That one I made myself so I don't know how others would go about organizing it or putting things into it. Originally it was suppose to be a capable of expanding/collapsing, but I had a problem over on V4 with my slide code (apparently two versions of the same thing, even if I renamed all the css areas to different extension titles, it really didn't want to do it.)

My major issue right now is the side-bar not moving the categories over, and the weird padding all around my banner/welcome table navigation area.

Can't promise anything, but I'll give it a go - collapsing is a little above me though, not a coder by any stretch of the imagination, haha. =]

And you've got until well after the new year - v5 won't be compulsory for ~3 months after optional upgrades are made available. =]

Just wanted to say that the style tags & enhanced UBBC code are no longer necessary since you can use div styling in posts now. :] You can't set a class or float left/right, but that's the only difference I've seen, really.

Sorry, but they must not work because none of the posting templates, or templates, whatsoever which use enhanced UBBC tables and style tags show up correctly in the least.



I have no ability to just go recode over 1000+ templates across how many sites that have requested my those templates (as well as my own site)for their forums.



In order to fix this enormous issue, it is easier to merely incorporate these two things as plugins, rather than having to go back and change everything for all these people. I don't even work with stuff like div tags or any of that. There are far more people in this same boat than just me.

I could even be snooty and say something asinine like "oh, well if they are already incorporated then how about /you/ go fix all these 1000+ templates for me and all others that are asking for the plugin."


See the problem?

If how many users are using a same format with something, and suddenly that format breaks, you fix it; not force hundreds of users to re-write everything.
