Thanks for your reply Ryan Roos I need to read through it again before I can reply properly. In the meantime I thought I should let you know that I don't have a middle mouse, I have a wheel..... Click down on the wheel. It takes some getting used to, but that is your middle mouse button. Oh no you don't say..... now how embarrassing is that, please don't ask me how long I've been using a mouse with a wheel.....

There will be a full help guide and full documentation of all of ProBoards' forums later on as I said above. We are still in Beta.
The tip I gave about the middle click is a general web tip from me to you guys, to help you everywhere you go online. That isn't something that will be in the help guide. That was just me trying to be helpful. But somehow that becomes the focus of this thread.
I am not frustrated with you guys. I simply have to explain why we do things the way we do and am typically then asked 'why?' right afterwards. If I come off as short it is only because I am trying to be to the point and leave out the fluff, because inevitably I always get additional questions about that fluff.
Feature requests are great. Everyday there are lots of great ideas. However sometimes threads like this arise where people feel that there opinion is the only correct answer. I have to explain that we do things a certain way for a reason. And then no matter how factual or out of control that reason is I get questions or negative feedback. Links will function how links are supposed to function (based on standards, not opinion). I will then do my best to give you guys alternatives to help you (including tips that work everywhere online, not just here). That's all this was, was me trying to help. My proficient comment that got highlighted in red was supposed to be no different then if I said you should be proficient at driving when going out in a car onto the highway. It's not an insult. i want you guys to learn and be efficient in what you do. i was trying to help.

Okay, not to change to topic, but we really need to fix this bookmark issue you guys are having. We haven't been able to recreate it at all. Are you saying that the bookmark has literally disappeared from your list of bookmarks on your bookmark page? Not the bubble, or something like that. This thread is gone from your bookmark list, but it was there before and you did nothing to it or any other bookmarks. It literally disappeared from the list of threads?

I am using FF Ryan Roos and what seems to be happenng to me is one of two things...some older bookmarks seemed to be missing but what I suspect has happened is that when creating a new thread/post then I have been bookmarking whilst typing the post - left underneath says that this thread will be bookmarked - well it doesn't bookmark.. You have to create post/thread and then bookmark once it has been posted...this I have been doing for a while now. Bookmarks that are missing are, for me, threads that I bookmarked and I don't get a notification...the thread however is still in the bookmark list..does that make sense. It is as though the bookmark has just been taken off.. RF

Okay, do you mean the bookmark bubble? Or do you mean the email notification? Or do you mean a notification bubble? When you say you don't get a notification, what is that to you?
If it's still in your bookmark list then it isn't unbookmarked like Rita said.
What is it that you expect should be happening that isn't happening? Please try to be very specific and clear. Thank you.

EDIT: But if I'm lucky the thread will still be in the 'participated' list, but not showing the 'new' icon.

Okay Rita.
I need you to do me a favor. DO NOT RE-BOOKMARK THIS THREAD.
We are going to try and investigate using your account and bookmark list. Please just don't re-bookmark it.
Just a couple things. I know this will sound ridiculous since we know some of the answers, but please be patient.
What browser are you using? What Operating system?
Did you bookmark the thread for sure?
Do you remember how you bookmarked the thread? Where you did it?

Do you remember how you bookmarked the thread? Where you did it?OK I've not book marked this thread again, I was in the middle of uploading screen shots to Photobucket when the phone rang so didn't see this post of yours until after I'd posted. I'm a very patient person.... I'm using FF 17.0.1 XP Home Service Pack 3 I bookmark all threads I start so I can find them later and also get email notifications, of course I also bookmark threads I haven't started. As Rosefriend has already said bookmarking at the time of creating the OP won't work, I have to click on create post then bookmark. Once a thread has become unbookmarked I rebookmark whilst viewing the last post.

Ryan Roos - I have just lost the bookmark to "Default smilies" a thread that I actually started. support.proboards.com/post/5053608/threadThat is the link to the post that I didn't get a bookmark for. The Bookmark is missing totally from the list but I can see it on Participated... I am on W7 at the moment - FF - 17.0.1 I bookmarked this thread twice - once whilst making the original post and then again when I realised that the bookmark didn't work until after a post was created. I have also lost bookmarks using my PC which is XP FF 17.0.1 I have NOT re-bookmarked this thread... RF

Thank you, please don't re-bookmark those if you can. That way we can look at them in the database. Thank you. Also the Participated dialog has nothing to do with bookmarks. You don't need to tell me about that every time.

How you format a link is up to you. You control how it opens. pawl explained the different formatting. If you properly enter a URL using either http:// or a URL tag (with no target) then it will open in a new tab. If not then it's going to be the same tab. That's just how things work. Additionally where things open can be controlled by you as a user. Ctrl + Clicking on a link will open a new tab. Middle clicking a mouse will also open a new tab. If you are some one who likes new tabs you should train yourself to get into the habit of doing these things. These work all over the internet, not just on ProBoards. That is part of being internet proficient. We additionally do allow you to specify a target when you are using the URL tag. So you can even have control over it that way too. Oh thats great, I had no idea that the wheel did that too, every now and then I got a new window opened while scrolling the page but never knew it was because i clicked the wheel and figured that i somehow must have clicked the button while scrolling lol One question though, a bit confused (my usuall state of mind ), I have a small memory in the back of my head that I added a code to the board because there was some members that wanted the links to open in a new tab instead of opening in the same window so I added that code to the board so all the links would do that. In V5 How will I set it up so all the links will still open in a new window? (This is just for convinience from my part so i don't have to add a "(wheel click for new tab") or similar after all the links on our board) And another question while im at it, if i want to link to a specific post in a thread how do i do that? (sorry for the off topic, disregard thist if needed)
