Well it works with this code, but the name isnt colored when you view the profile:
.user-1 { color: #000000 !important; }
i guess there must be a css code or something to force it in the shoutbox as you send any message

Colorsmear doesn't work off CSS. It runs the text through an engine to colorize each individual letter

hi, i have a problem with the shoutbox. So when i type something in the shoutbox, the name isnt colored but just with the default board display color, and the only way to fix it is refreshing the page. Is there a way to force the color in the shoutbox so i dont need to refresh the page every time? Add this to a header/footer area recon754 <script> $(document).ajaxComplete(function( e,r,s ){if(s.url.indexOf('shoutbox')!=-1){namesmear()}}); </script> OR Just add the javascript code in a plugin. WormopolisThis is probably the simplest way to fix your aforementioned problem. Didn't seem to slow anything down. Tested in Firefox and Chrome flawlessly. IE9 has about a 200 millisecond delay when running the function which is barely noticeable. I hope you will update it in the next release. It is a really cool plugin.

Awesome. I just really didnt look into it. I know Peter made it work in his plugin as well. I been working on other things.
Thank you, and I will pop a credit in the source for you when I update

Hi, Wormopolis ~
Could you please tell me if it's possible to over-ride the color smear for a certain element, but still have it work on the rest of the theme?
I would like the default I'm using currently to have the board names displayed in a single color.
I added this to the style sheet hoping it would override the smear, but it doesn't.
.boards .main .link a { color: #53859C !important; }
I really don't want to disable the plugin on the entire theme, because so many of our members use it for their names and/or titles.
Is what I'm asking for possible?
Thanks!

so you want board name smears to work in other themes, but not a specific one?

Yes.
I have your smear working on the vast majority of my themes, Wormo, and love it.
However, this particular theme (currently default), with the title bar gradients and how I have them set up, I would prefer the board (and sub-board) names not be smeared.

well if you add a class of "nosmear" into whatever element you want skipped it should ignore it, but as a template variable I dont know if you can add additional classes into the board names link. I havent tried.

Wormopolis, I went another route. I was successful in over-writing the color smear in both the board titles and the sub-boards in Chrome, but am having difficulty in FF.
In FF, your color smear remains and a gradient background is placed behind the text.
Your smear works in FF, so I presume I should be able to achieve the same result that I did in Chrome. I'm just not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Any ideas, help, would be appreciated.

smear doesnt really work using CSS, so a style sheet wont really stop it. it looks for <a> tags with class="board-link" and rewrites the HTML inside. which is why it isnt being affected by any CSS you are doing. the gradiant is from something else, colorsmear doesnt do anything with gradiants. looking at the template, it looks as if that tag comes from the template variable $[board] .
so in your template for that theme, if you change $[board] to be: <a itemprop="url" href="$[board.link.href]">$[board.display_name]</a>
colorsmear will ignore all of them.

Thank you, Wormopolis. Much appreciated.
Is there a reason why Chrome is reading my gradient for the boards and sub-board titles and showing them properly but FF isn't?
Or does FF not recognize gradient text?

Thank you! That answers that. The best I can do in FF is to get a gradient behind the color smeared text. Awful!

Yeah I cant help you with that one. that is why I went the route I did with extracting out the text and wrapping each letter with a font tag with a color.
