Description: Non-Staff Members Can't Edit Their Display Name. Option to allow a "1 time" change to the Displayname, this however is ONLY applied if their Displayname is the same as their username (basically if they haven't already changed their Displayname)

Updates:

V. 1.7.4 - Actually Fixed problem with plugin not working when going to the "edit personal" tab.

V. 1.7.2 - Fixed an issue with the plugin. Everything works now. didn't fix it.

V. 1.7.1 - corrected code due to PB's recent change in the edit profile tabs.

V 1.7.0 - fixed some potential bugs. should work properly now.

V 1.6.0 - Added option to allow members to change their display name once, afterwards the option is removed, and an option to add a message next to the display name option if this option is set to "Yes".

Is there any way I could set it so that only certain staff groups have this ability?

I could write another version to do that, but may i ask why? This version just checks if their group is staff or not.

It's no big deal, that's just how I have it set up currently. I have 60 staff members but only the admins currently have this permission. But don't worry about it if it would be a bother.

I've noticed that when I have this enabled, if a member makes any changes to their profile it reverts them back to their username instead of the display name I set.

A few members of my message board were unable to make changes to their signature images when I had this plug-in enabled in both Mozilla and Chrome.

britannia can you try having the plugin moved to the top? does this happen on just one theme or all themes?

I don't really know the answer to that one Richie. The screenpic is our default theme though.

I'll enable the plug in and move it to the top. I've only heard back from one member who was having trouble so I'll see if there are any replies and let you know.

My apologies...I was using Todge's Disable Display Name plug-in which is now not in the list! I've removed that and downloaded yours so hopefully I'll have no problems.

Unfortunately Richie, the plugin won't work on my site. If tested on Mozilla and Chrome and with all my themes. I also imported into my Beta test site and it didn't work there either.

I've also moved the plugin to the top of the list like you suggested before.

tell me step by step what you do and i'll try to see if i can recreate the error.

Okay, I downloaded and imported the plugin, clicked on the link to take me to the option to add the staff members who can change display names, saved the settings and enabled the plug in. I tested it on a PC a mobile and an ipad but none worked. I then put the plug-in to the top of the list, tested again and still had no success.
