re-download attached file and follow these directions:
to allow certain staff to change displaynames, please click "edit" next to the plugin on the "manage" tab and for "Who can view this plugin..." select "members & staff", then next to "Except members in the groups:" click on "Add Group" and select which staff groups you want to be able to edit displaynames.

Hm.. This is not working for me for some reason. I'm on a test account and I can still change the display name. Edit: so i used the top link which is 1.5.1 and it worked. It seems the one in the library is faulty cause that is what I used earlier which is 1.5.0 and it just wouldn't work. Not sure if you already noticed that or not.

This plugin, I think, is like reverse psychology to the member groups in that the exempted groups do not have hidden display name fields. Duh to me for not thinking before posting, per se. lol Anywho, great plugin!!! Could I make a suggestion? To allow an optional plain-text message that would replace the field with some custom message to the users? Perhaps, editable or not. It could say something like "Changing Display Names is not permitted..." or something. Preferably, editable now that I think about it so each forum can tailor it to their liking.Andrew

No rush at all sir. Just a cool idea is all. richupdated, please download from 1st post. Brilliant! Just what I was looking for! Great job, ®i©hie! I wasn't sure but thankfully after giving it a test I was able to confirm basic HTML syntax was allowed so I was able to utilize the below code to mimic the display box and indicate it was "disabled" from editing. Display Name<br> <input type="text" name="name" value="Not Editable" disabled> <br> <i><font size="1">Earned via contests or by staff.</font></i> I do have one new question that maybe you can help answer. Per reviewing the edit profile source code I noticed the string for this section of a user's profile form is fairly standard HTML syntax: <input type="text" id="form_<some_string>_name_input" name="name" maxlength="30" value="User's Name" class="full-width" /> It has been many years since I dealt and programmed/coded regularly in HTML and JavaScript so I gave it a whirl with the HTML form and the proprietary PB syntax as below and it failed on producing desired results just as I had assumed it would; because the value="" option for forms parses as a literal string and so my question is this: is it possible to integrate a dynamic variable in the value field or is that a hard-coded back-end edit by PB devs or a possible plugin modification? <input type="text" name="name" value=$[user.username]* disabled> *Or $[user.name]

(V. 1.5.2)
download from plugin library
Description: Non-Staff Members Can't Edit Their Display Name.
to allow certain staff to change displaynames: 1) click "edit" next to the plugin on the "manage" tab 2) for "Who can view this plugin..." select "members & staff" 3) next to "Except members in the groups:" click on "Add Group" and select which staff groups you want to be able to edit displaynames.
ENJOY!
The option to edit who can change their display name is gone. Please fix this!

Hi, I would like to start by saying that this is a great plugin, but I have an issue I need to raise if I may.
I have it enabled on our forum, and all is well with PC browsers, yet one of our members changed his display name without asking us. So after some serious head scratching I discovered that it doesn't prevent mobile browser users from changing their names. I am unsure as to whether or not this is also the case with the Proboards mobile app, so I couldn't possibly comment on that, but I do know that it does not disable this feature for users viewing the forum via mobile phone browsers.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Unfortunately, it's there's nothing you can do as far as mobile browsers go. You could only give warnings to members who do change it. I apologize but that's the best advice I can give you for this situation.

Hi, mate.
Ah, ok, not to worry, it's still a great plugin. We'll do what you suggest and make an announcement to let everyone know that display name changing is forbidden unless they obtain permission from the Admin team.
Many thanks for getting back to me.
