Shout Box Sound/Beep On Post And New Message

Hi @ihearthope,
I've joined (waiting approval)  but I'm guessing it's the file link. When I press the one above it asks me to log into CX. It need to be a file that is open to guests/everyone.
As a few people are having a problem with this I'm going to set up a link for sound from my own dropbox account for people to use. It'll probably be tomorrow though....

Have a look at the one on my demo site: Pebble Plugins  and shout on there to test if its working. (remember to switch the sound on!)

OK, that explains it. As it says in the first post of this thread, you need IE9+  , IE8 does not support HTML5 sound.

CX.com won't work as it only gives you access to your own files. You need a file host that anyone can access.
Dropbox.com seems to work for most people and blueshead gives some good instructions in this thread.

Updated code as a request and changed the buttons to a checkbox.
If your happy with it how it is then there's no need to update the plugin.

I haven't been able to get this to work- I had been trying with an older version and saw that you just updated it- so I installed the newest version, linked to dropbox sound files, and I can't get it to work in Chrome, IE10, or Firefox. I'm not sure what my dysfunction is? I hear the ding just fine when I'm on your demo site, so there is clearly something I'm doing wrong but I can't figure what it is.

I installed the plugin, entered my dropbox links (http://www.dropbox.com/s/uxxkl7p3nj9ivu3/button-15.mp3 and www.dropbox.com/s/7seujww9waw8nib/button-15.wav), and I enabled the plugin. Did I miss a step somewhere?

The dropbox link will have to be one that does not require the extra step of opening the file. You need a public folder. Files in my public dropbox folder begin with (https://dl.dropbox) and work with this plugin. You can find info about their public folders here

Instructions How To Host A Sound File @ dropbox.com

1/ Create a dropbox.com account.
2/ Go to www.soundjay.com/beep-sounds-1.html
3/ Select the sound you want and download the MP3 and the WAV file to your computer.
4/ Transfer both of these files to your dropbox.com PUBLIC FOLDER.
5/ Go to your dropbox.com PUBLIC FOLDER and right click on each of the sound files.
6/ For each file click 'Copy public link'
7/ Click 'copy to clip board'
8/ Paste that link into the appropriate section of the plugin.
9/ Save the settings in the plugin.
10/ Enjoy!

EDIT:  the links above should have h t t p s : / /  before them but proboards seems to be stripping it out of links/posts.

Please use your own links and not the ones above other than for testing. They will be changed after a while and no longer work. They are for reference only.

Please remember that this plugin only works for modern browsers. IE9+, FF, Chrome & others.

Thank you!! Apparently what happened was that in the end of 2012 Dropbox changed the way their website is set up, so there's no specific public link anymore. It took a little finaggling but I was able to get the link with a dl in it by left clicking on the specific file and allowing it to open in dropbox for streaming. Getting a link to the file didn't seem to work no matter how I did it.

I have one member who says he cannot see the sound checkbox. He is using IE10.

I can see the checkbox, can check it, and I hear the chosen sounds. I am using the browser Iceweasel.

The forum is www.aibafs.com

The odd thing is that the same member can go to my other forum www.fuce66.com and the sound works fine for him.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Brilliant when it works, but doesn't always sound. Even with the Shoutbox visible, it sometimes makes no sound. If you are looking at a thread it usually (always?) doesn't sound, and sometimes even the text doesn't appear unless you refresh the page. I can't get a clear picture of when it does or doesn't work because it doesn't seem to be a consistent problem. Any suggestions please?
