The pester plugin is one of my favs of all the plugins which I installed on our forum, but it is creating some problems for my members. One member reported seeing the following error message when creating a post: The post goes through despite the error message. Other members reported seeing the same error message. The message seems to be appearing on computers, on tablets and on mobiles. Firefox, Chrome and Android all seem to display it. I asked my members to try clearing their browser's cache and cookies, but no one has reported back. The problem seems related to the plugin's permissions. Would it be possible to make them editable by forum admins? Is there another way to solve this problem? TIA Curious. It appears that permissions have been modified on the key associated with the plugin somehow. The only fix that immediately comes to mind is to uninstall the plugin and choose to "delete keys associated with this plugin". Reinstall the plugin and see if the error persists. If so, let me know here and I'll consult one of the Proboards devs to diagnose the problem.

Thank you for getting back to me I will do as you suggest and ask my members if they are still seeing the pop-up. As an admin, I am unaffected by the error but just this morning another member reported seeing the pop-up. I'll report back when I hear from my members. Thanks again for your help! Edit: The only options I see when trying to delete the plugin are: "Delete Plugin" and "Delete Plugin and Data". If I choose the latter, I know that I will lose all my settings but I don't know if that will also delete the key. I didn't see an option to delete the key associated with the plugin

next to the build tab in your plugin I must be really stupid, because I can't find anything that resembles your screen shot ?adwoman? . If I click "Build" from the "Plugin" tab in the admin area and then if I click "VPester", I get a screen with several tabs: Settings, Components, User Interface, Images, Keys, Export. When I click "Keys", I get this: What am I doing wrong

Thanks ?adwoman? . I feel like such an idjit sometimes! Anyway, I did as Virgil Sovereign suggested and I although I asked for feedback from my members, I didn't get any. I take that to be "no news is good news" and will therefore consider the problem fixed until I hear otherwise (which I hope will be never because it took me almost an hour to recreate my exclusion list...) Thank you again to the two of you

That probably means others are seeing it as well. Can anything else be done to solve the problem? TIA, as always

Craig: We need your expertise on Proboards' backend. Do you know of any reason why the server would raise error 32 "no permission to write to this key" for a plugin with a user key, installed from scratch, with no special key permissions set within the plugin itself? Is something more thorough needed than "Delete Plugin and Data" followed by a reinstall to wipe out any non-standard permissions? Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Virgil Sovereign, I don't have this plugin installed, but do you have a Key Permissions in there? If not, I think (if I recall correctly) that the Write Permission defaults to Staff Only if a setting is not included for it in the UI. I may be way off base on this. If so, my apologies for butting in.

If so, my apologies for butting in. I don't have key permissions explicitly in the plugin. But it's a private user key. Having it so the user can't write to it by default seems... ill-advised. Staff members shouldn't even be able to access it. Moreover, this is the first time this particular error has been reported. The plugin has been around for years. I should hope the the problem hasn't existed this whole time without being reported. Since Craig doesn't seem to be around: Chris , any thoughts? You're the next expert in line.

My members' posts are going through despite the error message. This explains why many months passed before one of them finally reported the error. Maybe it's the same thing on other forums? IIRC, the key was a recent addition which was introduced with the most recent version of the plugin. The key was added to solve another problem that I reported when I first installed the plugin. I seem to be something of a pest for the pester plugin... It would be nice to get this problem solved but it seems to be more of an irritant than a serious problem and it doesn't seem to keep anyone from posting.

Virgil Sovereign , I installed the plugin on a forum but was unable to reproduce this error as a guest, admin or regular user, so some key (no pun intended) ingredient appears to be missing. The permissions[/a] for that key are RW for logged in members and undefined for guests which looks to be inline with what I expected to see. We would need more details...

Could it be something I did and not the plugin itself?

Maude Fealy, if you are able to perform a set of steps in order to get the error yourself then posting those steps would be immensely helpful. The idea is to capture the specimen and get it to the lab so it can then be observed under a microscope to see what makes it tick, this of course means it has to show itself in order to be captured.
