I'm member Talv of wildequinesv3.proboards.com/index.cgi. I have a number of important PMs I wanted to back up, and rather than doing it manually, I thought I'd attempt to take advantage of the "Backup Personal Messages" feature. There was only problem - it didn't work. After waiting around 15 minutes to receive the PM it assured me would arrive, signaling that the download was ready, I clicked the "Backup Personal Messages" button again. It said: "Your personal messages are ready for download. Click here to download now. Your messages are saved in a zip file. This file will only be available for 1 week." I clicked the "Click here" link, and promptly received a 54kb file that contained a mass of blank, 0kb *.htmls -- not at all what I'd expected. Though I re-downloaded several times, I always received identical results. Eventually I decided to run a search here, and found that it's a recurring (though uncommon) issue, supposedly related to the number of PMs in my inbox (with numbers exceeding 500 causing problems). I currently have less than 150, so I doubt message count is the reason I'm experiencing trouble. I would be grateful for any help in solving this.

Hi talvieno, There are known inconsistencies with the v4 PM backup system at this time. Unfortunately, I'm afraid we won't be able to provide a fix for the v4 software. The PM backup system has been re-written completely in v5 which eliminates all issues of the previous system, so once the forum is converted to v5 you will be able to utilize the new backup function to make a backup of your PM's as well as your own posts made on the forum as well. My apologies for not being able to provide a more immediate fix to the issue, however

It's all right - many thanks for the help and the explanation. At least I know now it wasn't something I was doing wrong.
