No one is questioning ProBoards having our email address. They rightfully should have it. And correct, Thomasss, an email is as disposable as anything else these days. Hardly anything that one can verify as being "legit" or not. Unless your the FBI, and can track the computer, and all the ID's to that computer. I refuse to answer on the grounds . . .

ramack, I can understand your need since you are a private board. No two boards are ran the same, so when a feature is offered, there should be every option available for it. In that way, everyone is better served. Thank you for seeing and recognizing my needs are very different from yours in regards to the forum requirements. Your forum is very open and is welcoming everyone. Not to sound harsh, but mine is just the opposite. It is closed, private and only welcome to a select few. Yes, I do agree that my members should be allowed to hide or reveal their email addresses in a list or profile from other members. But not hidden from the me, the admin. In real life, I expect my kids to be open with me, and they are, as they have nothing to hid. Once I sense that one of them is concealing something, there is a reason for it and typically not a good one. I'm not a control freak, just the head of my household. I don't want the kids running the house. Likewise, I am running my forum without being a control freak or micro-manager, but I am the admin. If someone is not willing to disclose their email address to me they have something to hide. And that is most likely because they know they are not on my original email list.

ramack, that's the beauty of ProBoards. Its great design makes it a great fit for everyone's needs. We are open and anyone can join at anytime. And you are only banned by your actions if they go against PB's TOS. That's about it. Otherwise we are a very tolerant group. In your case, your rules can clearly state everyone must provide their email address in order to be an admitted member. In my case, I don't need any more information other than my member's IP address and their proper code of conduct. That is all I ask of anyone. To not break any TOS.

We listened to our members and added emails back in, because that's what you wanted. We even had to rework how the v5 system works (we've spent the last 3 weeks making it work). Those of you that don't want emails have the option to remove them. When it was the other way members didn't have the option to add them. So now everyone can get what they want.If you don't want emails, then don't have emails. If you do, then do. There shouldn't be this big debate. Some admins like to micro-manage their members and others have public forums where everyone including guests are welcome. It's all up to the admin and their community. There is no right or wrong way. In v4 your emails could be seen by staff. In v5 your emails can be seen by staff. V5 doesn't launch until next Monday, this is still the beta. Most users will not be aware of any change at all. And that's because as of now, there isn't one. If you want member emails on your members list and you can't wait until we implement that ourselves, then you can go ahead and add it yourself right now. If for some reason emails aren't showing up for you and you do want them, do me a favor. Go make a new theme and see if they show up there. If they do then that is because your current theme doesn't contain the template code for emails. If you ask for help people can give you the code to paste into your template to get the emails to show, I'm sure. Or if your theme is really basic, just make a new one. If you want a more secure forum for you and your members then get rid of emails just like we originally intended for v5. Or if you need to verify members and make sure everyone is on the up and up then go ahead and keep the emails at the expense of that privacy. Everyone runs their own forums and if there is only one rule of v5 it's this... Version 5 let's you customize your forum in any way that you can image! That applies to emails too. A year from now there will be forums that don't even look like forums. There will be blogs that have ProBoards domains. There will be websites. And all of them will be on v5. Some may have shoutboxes, some might not. Some may have side tables, some might not. Some will have staff viewing emails and some might not. The End

I'm trying to modify my Member's List. Not sure about the correct syntax for the group because this code doesn't work. I just want to show the email address column on the list if the member viewing is an admin. {if $[user.group] == 'admin'} <td class="email">$[user.email]</td> {/if} Try {if $[current_user.username] == "admin"} Will replacing that line of code hide e mail addresses for all staff other than Admin in User Profile > Summary ?

Ryan Roos. since birthdays have changed in v5 with the availability to "hide" from everyone, some were hoping for a change in email as well from the old version. If PB doesn't wish to give them that option, it is certainly your right. But PB's original view was that laws regarding privacy have changed and with that your desire to protect your members privacy was of the utmost importance. Thus, your change of the email system when first debuting v5. But because ProBoards is so responsive to your members, you changed your mind after listening to your audience. And that's great. That's why your service is so popular. But there was an in-between option ~ having "hide" just as there is with birthdays. It's fine if you don't wish to afford the members that choice. But there are many who wish it were available.

To reiterate, it's {if $[current_user.username] == "admin"}<td class="email">$[user.email]</td>{/if} in the User Profile Summary. Any particular line?

You need to convince VS AdminWe're in the process of wrapping up all the lose ends this week. So if this is going to happen, it would need to happen now. I personally don't know what would have to happen to make this a reality. I don't know to what extent it would take to implement. It could be as simple as an option on your global profile or as complex as needing to modify all the email code everywhere (which just took us over 3 weeks to do). Sorry that I can't be of more assistance. Edit: Also ♥ ℒʊ√ ♥ you might really find use in the new multi-quote ability in v5. I see you just triple posted. In the future try selecting posts (either by alt + clicking them, or using the gear drop down) and then clicking quote. You can get all your messages into a single reply.
