Yup, Thomasss, that's why I much prefer there be a "hide" option. I prefer protecting and respecting my members right to privacy if they so choose. I want members to join my forum, not leave because their privacy will be invaded by staff.

Emails are another way to cyber bully, even though my rules are pretty strict, i'm not going to have that happen. The ONLY thing i'll use them for, is verification of accounts, in case someone was banned on my forum, or they wanna create a new account, and transfer post counts.
My site is cyber safe. Lol

Sounds good. So is mine. My members trust me ~ and I don't want to abuse that trust. I would think adding "hide" would be simple enough since another feature (birthdays) already has it.

In addition to kpatch 's question, I also want to know, how can I make these email address visible to admin only and not moderators?

I personally find email a better tool to weed out possible trouble makers. These people who join to cause trouble or spam are probably aware of using proxies so IP's in themselves don't help. I'm just the opposite. I find emails to be very unreliable as far as detecting spammers. None of the spammers I've ever encountered bother with proxies so as soon as I see they're from Indonesia/ Pakistan, etc., then I know not to approve them. sent from my mobile addiction Completely agree, email addresses can be obtained easily and are of no use whatsoever as a forum tool. I do the same and don't approve anyone from certain countries.

The demand is pretty clear here so if nobody else has already taken up the task I'd be willing to start working on a plugin that would enhance the current email address visibility options - perhaps allowing users to hide their emails again on an individual user basis, or hide their email for everyone except the main admin.
Or the power could be given to the main admin to hide individual members' emails who are particularly disgruntled with the publishing of their addresses, so they'd be able to PM a request for it to be hidden.

How is it possible that our newly registered members do not have email addresses showing on their profile when I am the admin? This is an issue we currently have sitting in the priority section of our internal system, our developers will be taking a look at this tomorrow morning and hopefully implement a fix shortly thereafter. For updates, watch this thread.

You do have the option to edit your templates and remove the users email address from being displayed. Just go to Admin > Themes > Layout Template > User Profile > Summary and remove this code {if $[user.email]} <tr> <td class="headings">Email:</td> <td>$[user.email]</td> </tr> {/if} I'm trying to modify my Member's List. Not sure about the correct syntax for the group because this code doesn't work. I just want to show the email address column on the list if the member viewing is an admin. {if $[user.group] == 'admin'} <td class="email">$[user.email]</td> {/if}

Either way, THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!!

Liz and Luv, So even as admins you want your members to be able to hide their email addresses from you? I'm coming from the perspective of having a relatively small private "close knit" member base whose emails I already have had because they had sent them to me via previous correspondence within another group. I am using those email addresses to verify and validate membership to "my" forum. If new members apply using email address that don't match a previous list which I already have, then I want more verification from new members coming in. If they can not provide more information as to their identity I reject their membership. As the forum admin, I want to know basic information about my members. But stop at emails. I don't need phone numbers, physical addresses etc. I just am screening out the riff-raff. As admins we should have access to email addresses. The members already have the ability to hide their addresses, but admins should be able to view them. And we can view them the each members profile even if the member chooses to hide them from the rest of the member base. You could always make a theme available for admins only and the other themes hide emails completely
