So... Following advice... I've downloaded Firefox and that's told me what I already suspect. The connection has timed out The server at aglobalvillage.proboards29.com is taking too long to respond.Checked with a couple of other members and they are not having the same problem. (Grits teeth and hits post button.)

I had thought of something you might try. Just by chance, have you contacted your internet provider? Just to see if there isn't something on their side causing the problem. Also just as something I was thinking on as well, try using a different computer and see if you get the same results. If you don't then there is something wrong in your internet settings somewhere that maybe causing all of this.

I'm a bit disappointed no one managed to offer any further advice on this, however... here's the rest of the story.
On California's advice I downloaded Firefox and attempted to use that on Proboards and got exactly the same result that I was getting with Internet Explorer... everything worked fine until I attempted to make a post.
I made no more alterations to my computer settings and went to bed.
This morning I came to the support board to see if there was any further advice.. there was none.
I signed into my forum and 'hey presto' IE and Firefox were both operating the forum correctly... it was speedy and responsive.
Now this is what puzzles me, I'd done all I could do, there was only one thing left for me to try and that was to delete Service Pack 2 and re-install, which I intended to do until I discovered IE was working.
Now IE didn't suddenly say to itself, "I feel better now" and start working on its own accord and I'd made no further alterations to my computer so by the process of elimination that leaves only one possible culprit - Proboards Servers. Remember.. this wasn't happening on any other type of Forum but Proboards.
I don't know if this is the case or not but it certainly deserves some form of investigation from Proboard Techs.
Thank you to those that tried to assist me, I'm grateful for your input.

Well that trace is consistent with the fact you said it was now working, all sounds to me as if it was a DNS problem with your ISP, which a trace while it was still down would have shown, if it happens again posts trace and will be be able to pinpoint the source of the problem around the world

Thank you Martyn. Sorry if I sounded grumpy but I was becoming very frustrated. Your help and offer of help if it happens again is very much appreciated.
Thanks every one.
