Nope Preview/Visual just seems a little pointless now without the feature. More V4 than V5

I noticed this and was sad when I read that they would be taking it away. I prefer copying the format of things because if I didn't want a format I would have typed it myself. I understand there were some complaints on how it worked but if V5 is all about making the Forum how you want it how is taking away something improving on that? VS Admin Brian

When you copy HTML from another website it can include invalid tags that are not allowed, including JavaScript, Flash, and more. Because of this, postings where users attempted to copy this type of data did not display properly. If you want to format something, you can do so using the top buttons that help format your post, or go to the BBCode tab if you prefer to write things that way. In most cases we believe that people who wanted to copy/paste from a website did not intend to copy the formatting with it, just the text.

Let me join the chorus as well. Not being able to copy and paste as a link is awful. I noticed it a few days ago. I C&P'd user names, now I do the "alt" workaround. I mentioned it in passing, but no one responded and I thought it was me!

In most cases we believe that people who wanted to copy/paste from a website did not intend to copy the formatting with it, just the text. And presumably if people used "invalid tags that are not allowed" they'd work that out when their post looked rubbish and use the BBCode instead? And those that did know what worked and what didn't would use it properly, develop a bit of skill on how to get high web quality looking posts, easily, and also have all the perks of it automatically bringing over the embedded links etc It just seems to me like a big step backwards - like I said, it's V4 not V5 Even if you're right on the 'most people just wanting to copy/paste text not bring formatting with it', there's the BBCode option for those people. All that's happened here is that you've dumbed down the alternative Preview/Visual option for those other people who did use it and did want to bring formatting with it And we found out after the event too, without any discussion or even any warning, when you pulled it and it just stopped working. I reckon there's going to be lots of admins who haven't even twigged yet the feature's gone

My Name is Billy Moonstone there are a lot of issues related to allowing any HTML to be pasted in. This includes issues such as background styles being copied in (where forums have multiple themes), or just text color being copied, which can look fine on one theme or not another. We provided a fix that causes the forum to never have "bad" data display. I understand that you are essentially willing to let those cases happen on your forum, but we have to act with the best interests of all of our customers. Trust me that we have weighed the options and we believe that this is the best option that provides the most compatibility for everyone.

Can't you at-least add in the copy/paste of images?

Can't you at-least add in the copy/paste of images? It's not that simple, however your browser should be able to support dragging an image directly onto the editor from another webpage.

Yes, links. This will be a tough one for my forum. Very tough. When posting information from a source, link attribution is necessary.

My Name is Billy Moonstone and everyone else: To cheer you up, I'd like to let you know that you can still highlight content from another tab, then click and drag it into your posting tab and into the Preview text area to do the exact same thing. This includes text and links that have already been formatted. It's a bit slower for those of us that are quick with a keyboard and mouse, but it does exactly like before.
