Hi, all of a sudden - today I noticed - when I copy and paste text/images etc from somewhere else onto my forum it pastes without the HTML (I think this is the proper way to describe it) Up to now copying/pasting would preserve things like links embedded in the text, the look (size, colour, font) of text and so on when pasting in Preview mode. A few bloggers who use my forum copy/paste over their blogs to my forum and one has just alerted me to the problem Any idea what has gone wrong? Is it a new bug? I can't find anything in settings and I'm pretty certain I haven't changed anything

Hi, My Name is Billy Moonstone. Based on complaints we've received, the preview tab now receives plain text similar to the way the BBCode tab does.

Hi, My Name is Billy Moonstone. Based on complaints we've received, the preview tab now receives plain text similar to the way the BBCode tab does. Brian, this is a total disaster. As far as I can see, the BBCode tab - which you can set as default anyway - got round the problems that anyone who would have complained could have complained about That aside, I've set up areas that rely on people being able to copy/paste from blogs and other sites. This just blows it out of the water. My users and myself actually thought this was one of the best improvements of V5. I honestly can't believe you've stopped it Is there any way I can have this functionality back?

Thanks Brian I'd really appreciate that. If there's anything I can do to help inform the discussion just let me know. It's really really important to us. THanks again bud

I agree. This was one of my favorite parts of v5, especially for roleplay forums. Applications, claims, etc.
I'd love to get it back.

Hi Ryan Roos Brian Tim Camara I didn't want to hijack jkjpath's thread but I just wanted to say that I definitely don't want you to strip out the formatting ability of Preview when posting - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEIn jkjpath's thread Ryan Roos says: The bringing over formatting option is one of the best features of the V5! It not only maintains most of the formatting and looks great, but it preserves embedded links, which is a MASSIVE improvement over V4. I bet most people haven't even realised its been taken away yet Surely the BBCode is there for those that don't want to bring over any formatting - as Ryan says - so, people have the option. I totally sympathise with jkjpath and anyone else who was confused but removing it from both is just turning an option into no option at all. If it was confusing people couldn't you just make BBCode the default and treat Preview as the more featured/advanced posting tool? There must be some way of sorting it out? Please guys, give us it back

BBCode is already the default upon registration on any forum. Ryan Roos has stated that the ability to copy over exact HTML into the visual editor was never intended behavior, so it will unfortunately not be returning at this time.

Ryan Roos said it was "never intended behaviour"? That's just sounds negative and a bit of a brush off if you don't mind me saying Brian. Why not look at it as an emergent property, something you didn't intend but that was positive and people actually liked? A win Proboards never intended! So, just to I'm 101% crystal clear: even though it's a positive to at least two admins so far - me and emily - who've actually noticed it's been taken away (and commented here on it), you aren't bringing it back because even though it's a good thing and gives admins choice and options, it wasn't intended to be that way? Honestly Brian, I know it's not your fault but this has seriously screwed plenty of plans I had for my forum. I acted in good faith, early adopting V5, converting early, being positive all over these boards, using every feature I could get my hands on to develop my board (including this one) and then PB goes and scuppers me by removing a critical feature without even any notice to the admins, no discussion about it, and then without any real explanation other than "never intended behaviour". What else is going to disappear? I give up. Seriously not happy.

Not to cut in on the topic of this thread as to be perfectly honest, I have no idea what you're going on about, but unless something has changed overnight, I can stress that the BBCode is not the default posting window. I have created 4 new accounts over the past week and I have had to select BBCode each time, as I need it for copying over my written up posts from microsoft word - so I sure hope that functionality doesn't disappear or I'm snookered. I have never written up my posts on the site itself - I used to until I had major browser crashes and lost what I was posting. So from that point, I started to copy and paste from microsoft word. I will cry if that changes and I end up with a lot of jargon that I did when I originally posted in the "preview" window. So has that changed overnight then? I think I need to make a new account soon just to confirm that.

No, you're ok Mands, BBCode is still fine and exactly the same. Providing you carry on copying your Word stuff in there you won't have any problems What's changed is the way Visual/Preview worked. Yes, it cocked up when you pasted Microsoft Word text in (but if you used BBCode you were fine) but it was fantastic when copying over things like article sections, blog posts and such like Things like this, and this or this, which even kept all the embedded links intact meaning you didn't have to re-do them. That's all gone now....
